We had the good fortune of connecting with LIA Givenchy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LIA, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to be a black woman in business, due to the lack or representation in the industry thus I started BARTICA RECORDS , then ventured into Beauty with Exotic Bliss Atlanta
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I first started as a song writer in 2007. I’ve since transitioned to being an artist. What sets me apart from other creatives is my cultural background and how I infuse it into my music. I was born in Guyana and raised in Brazil so I have a very culturally diverse background and a very worldly view. my music is predominantly hip-hop but I infuse a little bit of reggae and samba into it , it’s an amazing sound and an amazing fusion. My Journey was very difficult the hip-hop industry is not very forgiving to women so there were a lot of obstacles I had to get through , my team did it with me. Quickly I had to realize that it’s a very expensive Journey and Whatever I did have to make sense and had to set me up for my next move. That’s when I started to build my team , production got a few songwriters under my belt ,got me a manager, a PR team and took it from there. A group of people that really believed in my vision and helped me work towards it and that same team is there to this day. I definitely learned that quitting is never an option and nothing that’s worth winning would ever come easily and you have to understand your whY once you know your why it’s easy to keep going.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Now that I’m in the Atlanta metro area some of the most fun places that I like to go to would be capital Grille ,Buckhead salon ,hyde lounge and a few rooftop lounges, the aquarium , there’s so much to do in Atlanta I don’t know where to begin but it’s a very vibrant city that you can find things to do almost every day so any of my friends come to town rest a sure depending on the personality depending on what they like to do I can always find something in metro Atlanta to do.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to recognize Ryan T, Robyn H and Tuesday for all believing in me and being there from inception.
