We had the good fortune of connecting with Lia Abney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lia, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?

A habit that has helped me to succeed has been journaling. The first time I journaled I wrote down everything that was on my mind and on my heart. It reminded me that in Habakkuk 2:2 when it talks about writing a vision. Once I did it became the foundation for me setting goals for things I wanted to accomplish. Now when I read things I wrote from months back I am amazed at all I have actually accomplished. It is so exciting to see the steps I have made especially during those times when I felt that I am not where I want to be in life. It gives me a reason to celebrate my life’s accomplishments. Also, journaling helped me to write down emotions that I was dealing with that was creating blockers from being proactive and moving in the right direction. I try to do this almost every day. This has led me to finish many things in my life where I am now a certified Goal Success coach.

Another habit that I think is important to succeeding things in life is to create balance. Keeping in mind that things will not always be balanced but creating times when I work and times when I purposely rest is important for peace of mind and staying healthy emotionally and mentally.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I am the owner of Lia Abney, LLC which provides consulting services to help businesses develop and streamline processes by designing strategic plans using research analytical methods to determine best practices for growing businesses to the next level. I developed a model called the 3 Cs of Action which helps businesses identify resources and real solutions to solve problems. As a federal employee I gained knowledge and understanding of strategic planning and business process after 27 years of service. This became the foundation I use to provide marketing and cost analysis to help identify gaps and apply solutions with corporate and small businesses. The process to begin in this industry as a consultant was not an easy journey. It required for me to connect with the right people for support and willing to ask for help. I constantly remind myself that I am not in this journey alone.

This journey has not been an easy one. There have been many tears…even just this week – sigh. However, having a strong tribe around me and staying focused through journaling has helped me to #keepitmoving no matter what the circumstances.

The lessons I have learned along the way is to be flexible. Flexibility allows for me to move when I am faced with changes that may require me to change directions or slow down. Things don’t always happen the way I want and yes, sometimes I am disappointed but prayer, close friends, rest, and journaling have been the ways I bring back balance to my life.

I bring to Lia Abney, LLC as a consultant with over 27 years as a management analyst managing multi-million dollar projects as a federal employee. I am a 7 time author where I contributed to one book project titled Women in Public Administration: Theory and Practice the first of its kind written about the female endeavor in public administration from the perspective of female public administrators and academics. I am also an Amazon best seller. Lastly, I was awarded the 2019 Shero Arts Award in support of the local arts as an author and a member of the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Toast of Augusta for their brunch. The music and food is banging lol. On Friday I would take them to Humana Tree to take in the Art and a taste of vegan flair. In the evening we will take in Friday Night Jazz at the BEC Plex in North Augusta. On Saturday we can either walk the River Walk or window shop on Broad Street. Then on Sunday we can ride to Strom Thurmond Lake to enjoy the view and the water or take in a little hike on the trails at New Savannah Bluff Lock & Dam Park. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I would like to recognize. Of course, giving God the glory for the grace for this race. Next I would like to thank Ronic West. When I first met her I was not trying to hear anything she had to say LOL. But today, she has been critical in my journey as a mentor, motivator and a business professional. I would also like to thank my children – DeJuan, Tyler and Chontele who have watched me during my journey and have provided motivation to me as their mother as I watched them each persevere through challenges and soar to their own greatness.
