We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Athina Waldman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have been creative since a young age and was drawn to different artistic expressions. I began my photography journey during high school and found it to be an ideal way for me to express my creativity. Photography interested me because it freezes a moment in time and provokes an emotion from an image. I recently graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Photography. My style has shifted a lot over the past years. I started out taking beauty product shots and mostly outdoor photos always incorporating nature and landscapes. During my senior year of college, I found the style I enjoy most which is fashion/editorial. I enjoy working with models and the photoshoots are very fulfilling. I like that the variables of lighting and models’ personalities create a unique outcome in each of my photoshoots.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am very proud of how much I have accomplished over these past few years. I got to where I am today because of believing in myself, having good support around me, and not focusing on any negativity in my life. Majoring in Photography in college you are subjected to countless peer critiques which can sometimes be helpful but at other times it can be very discouraging getting critiqued on work that came from your mind and heart. I have learned to accept constructive criticism while staying true to myself as an artist. I have found the niche I am passionate about in photography and will continue working with models providing a positive photoshoot experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta has a lot to offer. One of my favorite places to visit is the Swan House. The history of the property is interesting and the grounds are stunning. It’s a great location to take photos. Ponce City Market is also a good option with plenty of restaurants and the Beltline to walk or ride bikes. I also like Colony Square in Midtown because it is has a variety of restaurants and movies.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of people that have encouraged me in the field of photography. SCAD photography professors have helped me process my aesthetic and style throughout the years. My mentor, photographer Jim Kranz, encouraged me to be confident in the work I produce, and to realize that quality is more important than quantity.
