We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexi, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was very determined and motivated. I was tired of having to work for someone else and doing the same thing over and over again. Having to deal with upset customers at 8am so one day, I told myself “ i’m going to quit this job & start my own hair business”. Once I have a thought in my mind I succeed it everytime because a thought is a form of reality.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a hairstylist, wig maker and a music artist. What sets me apart is i’m not your typical hairstylist, it’s not just about the money to me. If your energy is off I will cancel your appointment or order because I do not attach myself to anything or anyone who is negative. Energy plays a huge part in my business and life, you cant access me unless its strictly positive. With music, what sets me apart is the type of music I do. I’m not the typical female artist that raps about her private parts all day. I have fun music of course but as well I love to talk about my life in music the stuff I either went through or is currently going through. I’m most pride of being able to work for myself and have my work pay my bills. The only person that can change that is me, I do not have to answer to anyone about “needing a day off or I can’t come in today because of so and so”. It’s a relief to be able to take care of my family using my business that I built. I got where I am today because I’m determined, i’m human so I definitely had my days where I wanted to quit but my positive thoughts and pro overcame them negative thoughts. I wouldnt say it was easy and I wouldn’t say it was hard because it wasnt neither. I succeeded because I put my mind to it and I also set intentions and affirmations for myself so I definitely had a little help from the universe lol but overall if it’s something you can “think” you can do, trust me you can definitely do it! What I learned along the way is patience. When they say patience is a virtue that’s definitely true. I never really had it growing up, I always wanted it my way and now because I use to hate waiting for stuff but when starting your own business or branding yourself nothing will happen overnight. I learned to not be so hard on myself and everything will happen in due time. Timing is very important and when its your time, its your time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I really go out to much in my city because outside of working I’m a homebody. I love to be home where its safe but when I do go out for breakfast or food I like to go to mary bills, first watch or kickback jacks. Their prices are affordable and the quality and quantity of food you get is well worth it. If i was to step out it would most likely only be this hookah lounge in Fayetteville, NC called ANUBIS. Their instagram is @anubis_nc . I love to go there because its a beautiful scenery with wallart made by local artists. The lounge is very laid back, great vibes, great music! I even took some of my celebrity friend there & the staff treated them with the upmost. I also even had a scene from my “Alone” video shot there so it’s definitely a must go to in my book.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank myself for believing in myself and maintaining a healthy mindset throughout the downfall I went through. Now, I have a successful hair business that’s going to become successful and generate more income. I also want to thank my loyal clients that stuck around with me until I perfected my craft from two years ago. As far as the music side I want to thank my cousin who is also one of my producers, Ant Beazzy. Because, of him is the reason why I started rapping. He saw something in me that I didnt see in myself, I never thought about doing music until he told me I should try it. We both know I will master anything I put my mind to no matter what it is.
