We had the good fortune of connecting with Levar Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Levar, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
There was one painting in particular that ignited this passion of creating and showing my art to the world. Outta Mind, Outta Love. A piece that’ll most likely be shown first here. Although I painted before this, it seemed to be this painting that spoke back to me when I spoke to the canvas through my brush strokes and spirit. This is what officially started my painting journey as a fine artist. This was the summer of 2019 and I haven’t turned back since.

Turning my art into a business wasn’t an idea until a few months later, but I still needed the confidence to show it to the world in that way. I wasn’t afraid of the idea of if my art would sale or not, because I knew they would. The bigger problem in my own mind was worrying if people saw the value in my art the way I did and do now. So now I needed the confidence and to stand up for my worth. I can say I’ve gotten a lot better with both since then and look forward to seeing that translate in both the art world and the business world, and look forward to all the blessings that will come with it.

So, when it comes to my art, I always say a prayer up to God to bless me with the creativity He had when He made the universe. In everything I do God is involved. I believe that’s why my work comes out the way it does. And even though I say this, I acknowledge I am also very far from being a high level spirit and mastering being an artist. With that being said, my work is ever evolving. At first I was always working through my spirit or my subconscious, just allowing those things to take hold of each brush stroke. But, recently I’ve started putting my heart into the art as well, not realizing beforehand that my specific emotions could be translated very well on the canvas. I also think that’s a breakthrough most artists have to go through and I can say if that wasn’t a breakthrough, then I’m very very close to it.
I can say that getting to where I am now in life and with my art was not easy but was still filled with so many experiences that made me who I am today as person and an artist. What’s life without a few hard levels and outrageous boss battles, right? Having patience and the belief that things are working to be in my favor, having faith, really got me through it all, with a sprinkle of great support from my family.
Throughout my journey, I can say I’ve gained more patience than I’ve ever had, I’ve gained more connections that I never thought I’d gain in the first place, and I’ve become stronger in expressing myself. I learned that taking your time, appreciating the process, the journey, is what I need to revel in. Take it all in a moment at a time, because it all flies by when you’re not paying attention. But also, “if time is flying by anyway, why not create,” is something I keep in mind as well.
And for the people, when it comes to my art, I want you to not be afraid to get lost in it. Feel it. Enter it. Explore it in its entirety and don’t shy away from the feelings you feel when you see it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
-Little Five Points
-High Museum of Art
-the place right above the Decatur train station
-Underground Atlanta

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
would like to dedicate this shoutout to my God, my family, and the artists I’ve come in contact with throughout my life. God, because of the spirit He gave me and the life we create within my paintings. My family because of the support that will always be there whether I rise or fall. My mother taught me love, my father taught me some wisdom, my sisters are like variants of myself that look up to me and I, them. Then, to all the artists I’ve met, such as Tat Tee (Tierra Scott), Darrien Goodman, Jarrett Walker and Aridou Art, just to name a few. And lastly, a shoutout to Salvador Dali, a man who had a very controversial past but practically became a leader in the style of art I resonate with the most, surrealism, and if it wasn’t for him, a lot of my art wouldn’t be where or how it is today.
