We had the good fortune of connecting with Letuan Montgomery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Letuan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. As a child I spent my afternoons in my grandfather’s barbershop and my aunt’s beauty salon. There the seed was planted for my love of the beauty industry and helping others. Before starting Taylormade Lash Bar, I made several attempts to find my place in the world of entrepreneurship which taught me so much. After suffering an identify crisis, I fasted and prayed for purpose and God gave me the vision of my business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Owner/Lead Esthetician of Taylormade Lash and Brow Bar in Sumter, SC. My decision to open my own spa suite was life changing for me. After losing my father who I love so dearly, I decided to take the leap of faith and trust God. Betting on myself has never been easy, but it has been so worth it. I’ve learned major lessons like pray before you make any decision, building customer relationships is so important in this field, and to constantly challenge yourself. My brand is so important to me, because as a people lover my goal is to make everyone feel beautiful. I truly believe when you feel good, you do good! My clients are so special to me. We laugh, talk, sing, and pray together. God really have used my spa as a vessel for his work. I’m so honored that he chose me, and I’m going to forever choose him.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let’s see….this is actually hard. Sumter is kind of small, so I usually go next door to Columbia for more options. If my friend came to visit, our first stop would definitely be some family members houses. I’m super family oriented, so we’d go visit my 85 year old grandmother who says ANYTHING! It would definitely be a great way to start off, because I haven’t meet anyone who haven’t loved her yet. I’d then take them to meet my mom, and have her cook us a great meal. My mom is a caterer, and an amazing cook. For something different to eat, we’d get a flavor bowl from my one of favorite food trucks Moody Foody. One of the places we’re known for here is Swan Lake, so a walk there to talk and catch up would be nice to end the night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my story to both my aunt and my grandfather. They have played a major influential role in my decision to be an entrepreneur. As a child, I watched them both turn their services in the beauty industry into successful and nurturing businesses. They always worked with a smile, and established connections with their clients that resulted in lifelong relationships. They both have created legacies in our hometown that I would love to follow in their footsteps and continue.
