Meet Leslie Anne | Multidisciplinary Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leslie Anne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a contemporary multidisciplinary artist, and I use my talent to celebrate and uplift the cultural richness and beauty of women and Black people. My artistic endeavors converge upon a profound exploration of self and a desire to reclaim the narratives that have been historically overlooked. As a Black woman artist, I seek to challenge the prevailing underrepresentation of Black women in the artistic landscape, assuming the responsibility of presenting my truth with an unapologetic authenticity.
At the core of my creative practice lies a deeply personal journey of self-discovery, punctuated by vibrant self-portraits that serve as poignant testimonials of my emotions, experiences, and personal growth. Through my art, I attempt to weave a tapestry of collective connection, inviting viewers to partake in my narrative, find solace in shared experiences, and delve into the intricacies of their own individual journeys. Evoking a sense of introspection, my work transcends visual representation, delving into the realm of the metaphysical, with celestial motifs of stars, clouds, and the expansive skies, serving as symbolic vehicles to explore the vast spectrum of human emotions, vulnerability, and our shared humanity.
My artistic range spans multiple mediums, as I fully embrace experimentation and expansion. I paint with acrylic and oil paints to showcase a rich interplay of vivid colors. Simultaneously, my collage-style digital artworks and photography capture the ephemeral essence of contemporary existence, showcasing images and textures with an innovative flair. I also create cover art and incorporate digital illustration into my creative process, adding yet another layer of depth to my multifaceted body of work.
My original paintings and limited-edition prints are available in my shops online. You can also catch me in art exhibitions and events in Atlanta and around the country.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In terms of food, I recommend Barcelona Wine Bar and Bar Taco. I would also suggest Jeni’s Ice Cream, because it’s just delicious. It’s fun to have a picnic at Piedmont Park, walk the Beltline, and soak up some sun. There are lots of cool shops and restaurants at Ponce City Market. I would also suggest visiting some of the art galleries around the city like MINT and Atlanta Contemporary. Lastly, check out Little 5 points to do some thrifting and record shopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am dedicating my shout out to my dad, John. I have always admired his work ethic and his creativity. His ability to teach himself how to do things has always been inspiring for me. It showed me that I was also capable of doing whatever I put my mind to, like teaching myself how to paint and illustrate. My dad is a teacher and firefighter and went back to school to get his Master’s degree. Knowing that he continued to invest in himself and further his education inspired me to do the same. I think his work ethic rubbed off on me, which has been really helpful as a small business owner, artist, and graduate student. Shout out to you, dad.
