Meet Le’Ronnie Bussey | Dancer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Le’Ronnie Bussey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Le’Ronnie, how do you think about risk?
The biggest risk I took was when I moved away from home at age fourteen. The school I was at wasn’t feeding the needs I had for where I wanted to go for my career, I had a dream of moving to New York at 14 to join the JKO school but I’m happy that my previous mentor/teacher, Wes Chapman, brought me to his school in Birmingham, Alabama. At The Alabama School Of Fine Arts and as a result of the risk I took leaving my family and friends behind I found myself and I found purpose for my career. My thoughts and my dancing matured in a way that I never thought would happen which at the time was what I needed. All it took was a simple risk of going against what everyone at my age was doing at the time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others i feel is my undeniable dedication to where I want to be and what I want to do with my career. When I have my mind and my heart set on a place or a goal I will stop at nothing to achieve it, no matter how long it may take me. The journey for a dancer is never easy, but that’s what makes it so appealing, the constant striving for perfection, but perfection will never be achieved. The most important part about my story is that my family and I came up from nothing, I do everything for them and for my small town because they have sacrificed so much for me and I owe my career to them.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think my mother and father and the business that they created, Mo Lemonade, are one of the main factors in where I am today. As well as my hometown the city of Chattanooga. They all supported me to get to where I am today, as well as my mentor and teacher Wes Chapman who taught me and brought me up in a way that I can’t even explain. I as well would like to shoutout where I train now, The Juilliard School, and as well Alicia Graf Mack my artistic director.
