Meet Lerae Funderburg | Entertainment Attorney & Wellness Practitioner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lerae Funderburg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lerae, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My approach to work-life balance has evolved significantly over time. In the past, I often found myself striving for a perfect balance, trying to give equal attention to every aspect of my life. But as I grew and especially after becoming a single mother and entrepreneur, I realized that this idea of balance isn’t always practical. Life is dynamic and constantly changing, so expecting everything to be evenly keeled at all times is unrealistic.
Now, I prioritize taking care of myself and my children, making self-care a non-negotiable part of my routine. I’ve come to think of it more as finding harmony rather than balance. Harmony means integrating the different aspects of my life so they coexist and support each other. Some days might require more focus on work, while others demand more time for family or self-care. It’s about being present and adapting to what each moment calls for, ensuring that my life feels fulfilling and aligned, rather than perfectly balanced.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m most proud of creating a space where wellness is accessible, relatable, and non-negotiable, especially for Black women and mothers. Through my retreats in Costa Rica, coaching programs, and the Sacred Tribe community, I’ve seen firsthand how prioritizing self-care and inner healing can transform lives. It excites me to witness the shifts in the women I work with as they begin to put themselves first, embrace their power, and live in harmony with their true selves.
Getting to where I am today has been a journey of growth, learning, and resilience. It wasn’t easy; there were countless challenges along the way. From balancing the demands of motherhood with building my wellness business to navigating the complexities of the legal profession, I’ve had my fair share of obstacles. However, each challenge pushed me to deepen my commitment to my own self-care and to the work I do. I’ve learned to lean into my community, ask for support, and stay aligned with my purpose. Embracing the concept of harmony over balance has been key to overcoming these hurdles. By integrating wellness practices into my daily life and making self-care a non-negotiable, I’ve been able to navigate the ups and downs with grace and determination.
I’ve learned that self-care is the foundation for everything else in life. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and trying to do so only leads to burnout and frustration. I’ve also learned the importance of authenticity in building a brand and a community. People resonate with realness, with the understanding that wellness isn’t about perfection but about progress and presence. Lastly, I’ve discovered that the journey is just as important as the destination. Every step, every challenge, and every triumph has contributed to the growth of my business and myself as an individual.
I want the world to know that my brand is built on the belief that wellness is for everyone, no matter where they are on their journey. My story is one of transformation, of moving from a place of imbalance to one of harmony. I aim to make self-care accessible and relatable, especially for those who might feel that wellness is out of reach or not meant for them. Through my work, whether it’s through the Trap Wellness brand, my retreats, or coaching programs, I’m here to inspire and support others in making self-care a non-negotiable part of their lives. It’s not about achieving perfect balance; it’s about creating a life that feels harmonious, fulfilling, and true to who you are.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, well given that I have just relocated to Central Valley, Costa Rica – the options are endless. The best time ever is guaranteed. I would take them on a hike to see one of the many gorgeous volcanoes in the country. We would definitely visit some of the natural hot water springs that are nearby and heated by the volcanoes. La Fortuna is a beauty and has some of the most illustrious hot springs around town. Costa Rica’s luscious rolling hills of green grassland mountains are so beautiful, no words I could speak would give them any justice, so she would definitely have to see those for herself. There’s this beautiful restaurant called Los Jardines Vivero y Cafe that is nestled within the most gorgeous scenery and the food is just as amazing. I would not allow her to leave without visiting one of the rich coasts, after all, that is what Costa Rica translates to en Ingles. I happen to love the beaches in Tamarindo as well as the food and atmosphere. Ideally, she needs more than a week to see all that Costa Rica really has to offer, but pretty much anywhere we go will be a vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give credit and recognition to my Beloved Queen Afua. I came to know her as I embarked on the Sacred Woman Practitioner journey, which was a profound experience that transformed my life mentally, spiritually, and physically. The Rites of Passage not only brought about this personal transformation but also inspired me to pursue a career in wellness. Over time, Queen Afua became one of my legal clients, and we’ve built a relationship where we pour into each other equally. She has been a true inspiration and a shining example of what it means to live a life of wellness. Her influence has been instrumental in guiding me along my path, and I am deeply grateful for her presence in my journey.
