We had the good fortune of connecting with Leontay Timmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leontay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was the desire to create freedom for myself in my life through working out of passion; The freedom to live the life that I want for myself and my future family. Working a 9-5 for the remainder of my life just won’t simply allow the level of liberation that I need. I have a servants heart so I knew that I wanted to fulfill my purpose in service by helping others. I prayed, searched, and waited for my purpose and passion to be revealed and once it came to me, I knew exactly what my business would be, and Glowsentials Skincare was born.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Glowsentials Skincare is literally my baby. Birthed from a place of desperation during one of the most challenging times of my life, health wise. I was experiencing skin issues that were very present for years. Although, I was experiencing these skin health issues on my own, I still wanted to help others on my journey to obtain healthier skin. On my journey, I was purchasing products that just weren’t a fit for me so I began to create and use my own products which eventually peaked the interest of others. My products are all natural and made with ingredients that are already sourced by the earth and they are still as effective as big brand companies and that makes me very proud. During my business’s growth, it has not been easy, as I am literally the only employee, but I’m learning to take one day at a time with the realization that this is not a race, but a journey!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m very simplistic with a unique taste for food and small/medium crowds so I would definitely hit up a brunch spot for the earlier part of the week, such as Yo’ Mamas or the Hive. Then we would hit the road a couple miles north and visit a winery/vineyard. I would definitely have to take them to the Sunflower Field in Autaugaville, AL since sunflowers are my absolutely favorite and Glowsentials’s emblem. We would definitely visit a bar or two like Bizarre: The Coffee Bar or a really chill rooftop bar to catch some vibes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe the success of my business to no one first but God, who did exceedingly more than I could have ever imagined. Then a select few of my family and friends who have been there to support, offer advice, labor, and help keep me encouraged when things got tough. I literally would not have succeeded as well without any of the aforementioned people!
