We had the good fortune of connecting with Leon Xavier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leon, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
For us, our biggest factor behind our success is teamwork. It might sound cliche but teamwork really does make the dream work. TNG Music House is a collective. We all have different strengths and utilize them accordingly. Ego’s aren’t involved when it’s time to provide the best product or when it’s time to seal deals. When friction does occur we are able to delegate tasks and business endeavors to make sure everyone gets what they want. Business is hardly a one-man show. The gang is very important to me and to the success of our brand.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This was very far from easy. Some things do come naturally but for most things it’s a process. The biggest thing I’ve learned is to stick to your guns. If you found/created a sound that has not yet hit mainstream or isn’t popularly accepted DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED. Not all money is good money and if they don’t like your sound and want you to play whatever suits their ear then maybe the gig/ event isn’t for you. Anybody can put on a facade and appeal to whoever is in front of them. It takes more guts to be yourself as much as possible and once you’re finally where you want to be in life you will have acquired more respect along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d have to start them out in the studio. Not only is it the studio but it doubles as our pregame spot. We’re probably there at least 4 times a week. We would have to hit Kung Fu Neck Tie to check out my dawg Astro 8000 for Cozy Sundays. If you visit Philadelphia it’s only right to get a cheesesteak at least once on your trip. Theres a lot of debate of who has the best cheesesteak in the city but MY favorite is Jimmy G’s Steaks. It’s right on Broad street and has a pretty central location. Also they’re open until 3am. Mirage on south street is always the move during the week. DJ HBK always holds it down and sets the vibe right. Thursdays we’re back at Kung Fu Neck Tie. My dawg Hashland will have Thursdays feeling like the weekend. The actual weekend is a free for all. You can throw a rock and hit a poppin event. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is all due to the gang. My business parter DJ is very well connected and has been able to put us in positions that talent alone cannot. For that I’m forever grateful. My girlfriend, Samantha, has held it down throughout this journey. She keeps me grounded so my vices don’t get the best of me. And a special shout out to my longtime friends Dior Stewart and Dom Ransom. We started this journey together and did some amazing things in the process.
