We had the good fortune of connecting with Lekisha Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lekisha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
So many people have amazing visions when it comes to business ventures and brand development. However, they have a hard time making their vision come to life. When starting Anatomic Productions L.L.C, I wanted to make sure I developed a business that allows me to utilize my artistic abilities to do just that; bring visions to life. This business was a stand alone for two years, but as time passed, I began to feel like their was a missing component. I knew that assisting individuals with bringing their visions for their brand to life via marketing materials and logo design was a major portion of the process of business development. However, I began to realize that was only a part of the bigger picture of business creation. Therefore, I put my research and development skills to use and created my second business, Generational Wealth Enterprises L.L.C. With both businesses, I am able to provide a holistic approach to business creation. My goal is to use these businesses simultaneously to break generational poverty cycles through professional designs, education, and proper business formation, to build generational wealth.

What should our readers know about your business?
Anatomic Productions, my design and marketing business gave me my first taste of entrepreneurship. When I started, I have to admit, it was pretty difficult. At that time, I had not built the confidence in my work and was afraid to put myself out there. I started with a few designs for some friends that turned into referrals to other. Even with my clients responding in amazement and satisfaction of my work, I still didn’t think I would be able to build the business to the level it needed to be competitive. On top of all of that, I was dealing with unemployment and health issues. Honestly, it got so bad at one point that I considered giving the business up. My clients were scarce, my money was low, I was facing homelessness and losing my car. All I had at the time was prayer and faith that something had to change. My friends and significant other kept pushing me and supporting me to go ahead and put myself out there as I was doing for my clients. I had to do some deep reflections and evaluations to see where I wanted to be and what I wanted to accomplish. Knowing God and His word, I knew I had to write the vision (Habakkuk 2:2) and push towards the goals I set forth. So, I rebranded my business, started social media marketing, and things began to pick up. This journey led to the creation of my first book “Who Are You?” (available on Amazon), which discusses the importance of self-reflection and utilizing your journey as the foundation for your brand. It also elevated my confidence, which brought me to the development of my second business, Generational Wealth Enterprises. Instead of sticking to one thing, that is often times the common practice in business, I wanted to use all of the knowledge and skill sets I have been blessed with to help others bring their visions to life. With the creation of Generational Wealth Enterprises, I am able to not only structuring a business for my client, but through educate them, guide them, and shift their mindsets. The ultimate goal is to help others build a legacy that they can leave behind.

Through this journey, I have learned so many lessons. One of the toughest ones I had to learn is that knowing who God made you to be is critical. I lacked confidence for so many years. I was afraid to use what God gave me. However, I realized that by me sitting back and not stepping out on faith, I was failing Him. It was selfish of me to not use the skills I have to help His people. This was a hard but necessary realization for me. Once I made that one step to put myself out there, I realized that this is bigger than me. It is more than a career or another business; it is my purpose. Learning this made it easier to accept that even though many others around me may be doing the same thing, the individuals that I encounter are those assigned to me specifically to make a difference with. I worried less on looking like other businesses and following generic trends and more on reaching those who needed me the most. I believe this practice is what makes my business stand out the most.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of the places that I recommend checking out include any seafood restaurant, So Good Wings (Swanee), Props (Warner Robins), Levi’s Grill (Warner Robins), and Cluckin Chicken (Warner Robins). For hang out spots, I recommend the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and Andretti Indoor Karting & Games Marietta. I also enjoy fishing, so anywhere I can catch some nice size fish is a plus for me. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The journey of owning two businesses and portions of others is not an easy journey and one I know I can not do alone. God has brought me a long way on this journey and has been with me every step of way. I have to thank Him first. I have to thank my mom (Dorothy Young), dad (Mathis Young), and grandmother (Leneise Davis) for instilling the desire to continue to push forward through difficult times and never give up. I have to thank my brother (Deric Williams) for being my listening ear and giving me sound advise on how to proceed with achieving my goals and aspirations in life. Also, I have to thank my significant other Detron Hammond. Detron always pushes me to go for the top and never give up. He makes sure that he walks with me every step of the way to make sure I always know my worth and the value I bring to the table. Without them, I know I would not have made it this far. I will forever be thankful for them.
