We had the good fortune of connecting with LeJewelia Jamise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LeJewelia, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Everyone’s definition of success is different. Success for me can be constantly getting auditions every week from my agency, or getting great notes from my acting coach every week. I honestly feel that being consistent and having a goal every day helps me succeed. One goal I have everyday is to study or read over my scripts that I have from acting class or for an upcoming audition. I feel that if you truly study your script and build your character and step out of the box and do something different, it makes a great audition tape that could potentially lead to a call back!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actress. I started acting back in 2017 when I was still living in Texas. I’m just excited about being in Atlanta and meeting other creatives and actors like myself! It’s so much opportunity out here not only to be cast in a film, tv show or commercial, but to create your own content as well. When I decide to pursue anything throughout my life I go full speed! I do my research, I create goals, and reach out to people who are knowledgeable and that can guide me in the right direction. Pursuing acting definitely wasn’t easy, especially in the beginning. I wasn’t getting any auditions, I didn’t have an agent at the time, and on top of that, I was competing with thousands of others for just one role regardless if the role was paid or not. What keeps me going is my determination to succeed and me getting a ‘no” is translation for “not right now.” Whenever I audition and didn’t get the role I have a saying that goes ” That role wasn’t written for me” and I move on to the next audition. When you audition it’s good to have short-term memory and not dwell on one audition because you more than likely have to get prepared for a completely different audition. I overcome challenges with my drive to want to become better in my craft. So, I’ll look up a workshop, pick up a book on acting or go to a networking event for actors and creatives. Anything that can help me with my career and push me to become a better actress, I’m going to do it. Some lessons I’ve learned throughout my acting journey is to never compare yourself to anyone and walk into any room with confidence! The industry already does enough comparisons between actors so you don’t need to additional pressure added to your own mindset. Walk into the room like you know this character was written for you. I want the world to know that LeJewelia goes after what she wants and she’s going to figure out ways to get her name in the room without having to be in the room!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love Piedmont park and the belt line! I love working out and I am also a nature girl! I love being outside! One of my favorite restaurants out here is Mojave. I went there just to have food and drinks with friends and fell in love! The drinks are so unique, different and tasty! I also love to go to Slutty Vegan!! I stay right down the street from it and you wouldn’t even know it was vegan because it taste so good! Another place I was introduced to is Rock Steady Atlanta! Their Caribbean food…AMAZING! I’m also a sporty chick and love the College Football Hall of Fame. I’m planning on taking my dad and mom when they come down to visit me from Texas. One of my favorite hangout spots is the Battery! It’s a nice spot to hangout after the Braves game or even if they don’t have a game. They have plenty of bars and restaurants that make the night so eventful! I also love The Roof at Ponce City Market. It’s so beautiful seeing the entire city of Atlanta especially at night.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to shout out to my line sisters!! I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They definitely encourage me to take this leap of faith of pursuing my acting career and relocating from Texas to Atlanta. I also have to give a shout out to my best friends Shanice and Ryan. They also give me encouraging words and always make it a point to make sure I put myself and my wants FIRST before anyone else. Last but not least, a special shoutout to my grandmother. She was definitely concerned about me coming to Atlanta by myself, but she knew that this is what I wanted and encouraged me to find my happiness and I truly think I found it.
