We had the good fortune of connecting with Lejandra Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lejandra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship has always been a part of my blood “by force I guess haha”, Even though I am a Sophomore and hoping to pursue a career in bio medical engineering one day. I grew up seeing my mother working for herself as a model while working other jobs for an income. She always preached to me that she does not want me working for anyone so I need to have my own business. I am now 14 years old and do dabble here and there in makeup, but my mother assist me a lot with executing the creative ideas I have for the brand. My mother started the business for me and keep me very much involved in the decision making as the business grows.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am actually a student. Nothing much to say but juggling the business while being a student has been manageable thus far.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok so to be honest, I was actually visiting Atlanta. I also did not do a lot while I was there but I had some good soup food at I think it’s called “mama gang” and the other was “the soul kitchen” I think I got the two of them wrong. I visited the aquarium as well that was beautiful. I am hoping to make my way back again just for vacation.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a number of groups/organizations I would hope to shout-out, but not by names today because I am still in process to confirm what company I would be working with. The core meaning behind the brand Lejandra Newyork is all based on social issues. Each color represents something. The purples for domestic violence, the red for hiv/aids, the pinks for breast cancer etc… I am hoping to work with companies where some of the proceeds goes to them, the color that means everything to me is the oranges I hold this dear to my heart as this color represents acute myeloid leukemia aka “blood cancer”. The person I would shout out at this time is my aunty who is no longer with us because of the cancer mentioned above. Natasha Jenny Edmund.
