Meet Leighann Blackwood | Millennial Content Creator & Social Worker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leighann Blackwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leighann, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been an artistic person, even as a child. I remember being around 8 years old and hurrying up the steps to my parents’ room with my freshly printed short stories about characters with big personalities and plots with surprising twists held tightly in hand. My imagination as a child was developed largely, I believe, by my parents who nurtured my ideas and my being an only child who had to entertain myself with countless books and imaginary play. All of these things made me the creative person I am today. From photography to short stories, I am a devotee of the arts and will always be. It’s no wonder that I am constantly seeking ways in which to include art in my daily life and in my career.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a millennial lifestyle content creator and blogger at ohitsleighann.com. My aim is to empower my fellow millennials to move from surviving to thriving in their everyday lives. It’s so easy for us to get bogged down by the responsibilities and roles we have in our day-to-day, and I know this firsthand. My own journey of healing has empowered me to return to my love of blogging and creating. It’s my hope that the work I do will inspire others to truly live their lives how they want and to ensure that they create space for themselves to stop and enjoy the fruit of their labor.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s without hesitation that I give gratitude to my parents for their unwavering support of me and all I do. Growing up a child of the ’90s, with busy, hardworking parents, it would have been easy for them to simply overlook my creative pursuits and chalk it up to me being just another box to tick on their checklists of to-dos. But, they never did. I was always praised highly for my work, which encouraged me to continue to pursue my passion for creating and making. They were–and remain to this day–present and supportive of my art and talents.
Also, if you are a creative and haven’t read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, you are missing out. It’s a fantastic book for creative souls and those in need of a little inspiration to keep creating.
