We had the good fortune of connecting with Leia Avery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leia, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
You can’t let your fears stop you from reaching your goals or you may never fulfill your true purpose in life. Everytime I push myself to step out of my comfort zone and face my fears, the abundance of blessings come my way! I was very shy growing up, you’d never believe that I’d be providing fun experiences for a living.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Experience. Nostalgic. Fun! Not only do we curate fun experiences to celebrate special occasions (birthdays, baby showers, family reunion games, kids games, etc.) virtually and in person, (ATL, Nashville and Chicago) but we also host team building activities to help corporations with productivity and employee engagement. Our customers include Dell, Google, Emery, Deloitte, and McDonald’s to name a few! Just Play Entertainment was rated 1 of the top 10 businesses to celebrate special occasions during the Pandemic by Chicago Now Magazine. What sets Just Play Entertainment apart from competition is that we provide both a product and a service. We are the producers of the popular Hip Hop Charades card game series. If you like Taboo, you’d love Hip Hop Charades as teams race against the clock to outguess opponents in the most hip hop lingo to win. I’m excited to share that our games can now be purchased via www.Walmart.com I’ve been creating games since 2009 and hosting events since 2014. This has been a difficult and lonely journey, but the hard work and determination has definitely paid off! It’s my passion to create fun experiences, the feeling I get when I see people enjoying the moment is priceless. I had to fight my fears to get this far and will continue to push myself for greatness!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If it wasn’t for my dad, I wouldn’t be who I am today! I caught the entrepreneur bug as a kid seeing my dad, Warren Avery in his many entrepreneurial endeavors. His side of the family is full of business owners. My dad was my financial backing for my first 2 businessses. When I was a sophomore in college, I had a mixed CD kiosk in a local mall and also a cheese/caramel popcorn shop using my dad’s delicious recipe. My dad has always believed in me and for that I am truly grateful! When I told my dad that I had a game idea, he told me that when he was my age, he had a game idea too but never produced it. This inspired him to create the Obama-mania game. My shout out goes to Warren Avery for instilling the belief that I can do anything my heart desires. Thanks Dad!
