We had the good fortune of connecting with Legend 6ix and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Legend, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was something I already had in me when I was very young. It was just very difficult to embrace fully while pursuing my dreams of playing collegiate sports on the division 1 level. Little did I know that was only a goal not a dream. Life has a way of showing us what’s really meant for us. Sometimes you have to take risks & bank on yourself. That’s exactly what I did, not even knowing if this would even work out but I knew God put this dream in my heat for a reason. I realized this was something much bigger than myself. I had a purpose for myself & the people around me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think something that sets me apart is that I don’t really follow trends necessarily. I have my own look, mind, & artistic view on things. I think sometimes creatives can get lost in the sauce trying to duplicate certain things instead of just making their own distinct look out of it. I believe once you do that you’ll find yourself on the other side of it all meaning you’ll be the one who’s setting the trend. I’ve seen some try to duplicate my shoot ideas, a few even duplicate their captions like mine, & even use certain story marketing tactics like me. I don’t feel any ways about it cause we’re all creatives at the end of the day and I am happy to have even inspired those people ya know?

I am most proud of the resilience I developed along my journey. I know everyone has their own journey; some more tougher than others but it’s our story & what makes us who we are today. A lot of people did not believe in me or my dream. I learned that at a much younger age even before attending college. My skin was developed tough pretty early.

Getting to where I am today it was all developed through consistency, prayer, & hard work. Let’s be honest, we all know a ton of people who’ve tried being a photographer or creative. They never last cause they just simply aren’t consistent; that co-exist with your why. If your why is just to get paid quick then I feel like that’ll hinder your work a ton. I’m not saying it’s not about the money because it mostly definitely is but your passion for it is what’s going to push you to keep going; every opportunity won’t be a paid one but every opportunity is a chance to perfect your craft. I’m very spiritual and a stronger believer in God, a lot of times I had to rely on faith that everything will work out; sometimes it did & sometimes it didn’t. I didn’t understand a lot of things at first but I realized that I am where I need to be right now, trusting the process, & what God has for me will be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve actually only lived in Atlanta for a year so i’m still learning my way around the area . Some of my go to spots so far is Maple Street Biscuit Company, Puttshack, Taco Mac, Stone Mountain & any game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a great experience; Atlanta United & Atlanta Falcons experience was definitely top tier. I’d also say the Georgia Aquarium & Georgia Zoo. I haven’t visited either one yet but I’d like to very soon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel like it’s so many people that I could name right now haha; I should start by recognizing my family for being so goal driven for me & always being there. Brian Harvey for giving me my first opportunity to shoot a collegiate game. Bailey Carlin for helping me achieve a goal of landing my first full-time media job. Renee Montgomery for investing in me & also giving me the opportunity to shoot my first WNBA game(s). Lastly, Morehouse College for trusting me with their creative direction & branding. I know that I am probably missing a lot of people but just know you are all appreciated.
