Meet Leel Wan | Cinematographer/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leel Wan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leel, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from Broward County Florida, Ft. Lauderdale to be specific. My family is Jamaican and I was raised in a home with most of my family under one roof. My dad was a photographer hobbyist and a computer programmer. I grew up watching him do photography and take pictures of me and our family. I didn’t really become interested in cameras until I got older, but now I have so much more appreciation for how I grew up and I’m doing exactly what I should be doing and it feels great.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Cinematographer and Director of Photography I run a business called LeelWan Productions Inc. We specialize in motion picture art forms like Films, Documentaries, and everything in between. I got to the current level in my career by being someone devoted to producing quality work and being consistent. It took a lot of hard work and some long days. One of the things that helped me over come the challenges, as well as one of the biggest lessons I learned was that you have to stay focused and you can’t allow opinions of others to deter your path. I constantly learned on every set I was on as well as played almost every role on set. I want the world to know that Leelwan Productions Inc. is a brand that works with people and businesses from all walks of life and all different levels. We have give people some of their first opportunities on set, from acting to crew.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone were to visit here in Atlanta there are a multitude of places I can think to go. I not much for going out on the town, but I am definitely a foodie and I like to have fun. As far as restaurants to eat at, I would start with a place like Upbeets. They have a great variety of flavor packed salad bowls that will truly fill you up. Then right next door there is a place called Puttshack that is just an all around good time especially if you like mini golf. There are many natural attractions to see as well! Waterfalls in Roswell are always great.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a big shoutout to one of my mentors that changed my whole perspective on life. His name is Leroy McMath. At a young age he showed me so many possibilities through entrepreneurship. He opened my eyes to the world creatively running a business and thriving in it. He is a record label executive who has transcended generations blazed a trail for so many media professional who are still in the industry today.
