We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Hyun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk is essentially the key to success because your comfort zone can and will kill you. I personally was scared to start my business and made many excuses as to why I should keep pushing it off due to fear. If I sat on my ideas, i would be denying the word of the gifts and visions God gave me ultimately failing no one but myself. I only hope that looking back on my life I can say I didn’t let fear hinder me from living and experiencing everything to the fullest.

What should our readers know about your business?
It all started in my dorm room in 2019. I first began taking clients my freshman year of college at Clark Atlanta University. I consistently ran into trouble with the RA because I was told I am not allowed do nails in the dorms. I continued despite of the rules because this was something important to me. In 2020 when schools closed due to Covid, I decided to drop out of college and focus on my career fully and moved to Atlanta by myself in 2021. Over the years I’ve not only been able to learn and improve on my skills but grow my business into what I envisioned as well
What sets me apart from others is that my work is created from my heart. I love what I do and I believe we are all given talents and objectives that are unique to us. It is our job to share those things with the world which is what I am doing with passion through my craft.
What I am most excited about in my career is being able to be create and support myself off of my abilities. I think it is a blessing to share your gifts with the world and be in a field that you are passionate about. I only strive to grow and reach new heights.
Consistency is how I was able to get to where I’m at today. I think there are times when not only me but everyone doubts themselves and thinks about giving up. There is no cheat code, you must stay consistent in order to improve whether that’s in your work or personal life. In “Atomic Habits” by James Clear I read that even small habits as long as you are consistent will lead to great results which I have found true in my craft.
I would say it was not easy getting where I am but viewing my mistakes as lessons and talking to God is how I am able to overcome any challenges I may face. We are human and not perfect so mistakes are inevitable, but it’s all about how you pick yourself up afterwards. In business there will always be bumps in the road but you must say positive and hopeful as well as never give up!

A lesson that I have learned along the way is honestly not to over work yourself. Outside of work you are still your own person, so if you are feeling burned out it’s okay to take a break and recharge. All money is not good money if you are feeling drained. Balance in your work life is so important and I’ve learned your mental health should always come first.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say my mother deserves credit in my journey. Being raised not only by a single mother but a women who immigrated from another country, I’ve witnessed what true hard work looks like. My mother taught me independence from a young age and not to depend on a soul. I am now able to appreciate these lessons as a woman.
