Meet Leah Henry: On Air Talent & Multimedia Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Where I want to be at the end of my career is where God has called me to be. I’ve learned through my journey that as much as we plan and prepare for things sometimes they just don’t work out the way we feel like they should. My word for 2021 is “impact” and I feel like that word is going to span across my entire career. The desire that God has placed on my heart is to be a daytime talk show host. I feel like that’s my purpose. More than anything, I hope that as a talk show host, I’ll be able to impact people’s lives to be better. A talk show saved my life and I hope through my journey and career goals I’ll be able to do that for somebody else. I pray one day I’ll have a talk show that Oprah Winfrey and Tyra banks will be the executive producers of. I stand on their shoulders. My ultimate goal is to inspire and to have joy. I pray that I am blessed enough to be a blessing to others. An unlimited source of blessings to those in need and even to those who don’t need. God continues to bless me, so I hope to be a walking blessing. Ultimately, I’m trying to leave my mark on this world through a daytime talkshow… and then some! This is something that a little girl from Austin, Texas prays will be a reality. I believe in my heart that it’s my purpose on earth. It feels weird writing this for people to consume, but the Bible says write it down and make it plain. So here are my dreams world… Let’s see what God will do with them!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey as an entertainment journalist and on air talent has not been easy AT ALL. If I didn’t believe this was God’s purpose, I would have quit a while ago. I’ve been through so much over the last few years, it’s been extremely difficult as well as extremely rewarding. I’ve overcome all of those challenges with God, that’s it. I’ve struggled and been in dark places but each and every time God has pulled me though. I’ve learned so much through my career. Every pitfall has a lesson that I’m taking with me on every step of my journey. I will say that my God given gifts to talk to people sets me apart from other personalities. I’m excited for what the future holds for me, I don’t honestly know what’s next…but I do know it’s all aligned.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I LOVE food so we have to go to all the great food spots. This would be my guide if outside was open. First we’re going to little Asian fusion restaurant called “Blue Sunday.” Their food is BOMB! I know all the DJ’s from working at a radio station, so we’d be at all the clubs throughout the week. The African American History Museum is a must see! We’d have to get nachos at Clyde’s! Then we would have to hit Park for a Sunday brunch.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First we have the shout out God because He’s placed me in spaces I had no business being in. I want to shout out my ancestors for carrying me and guiding me, I believe my grandma’s prayers have continued to be a guiding force for me. I have to shout out my mother (in my head) Oprah Winfrey because there would be no space for me in the entertainment industry without her. Oprah created a place for a plus size woman to be a daytime talk show host. I have to shout out my radio village who has uplifted me and helped me gain confidence on air.
