We had the good fortune of connecting with Lavonna Heath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lavonna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wondered how do they make lip gloss but I never looked it up until I was 26. When I saw that it was easy I knew then I wanted to make my own lipgloss but better and to start selling.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my cosmetic business on September 30,2020. I started off just making lipgloss and then I got to thinking what else I wanted to sell and the idea of me just doing a lip line. I looked up on YouTube on how to make chapstick and while watching the tutorial I got to thinking like, oh this not so hard and got to ordering the stuff I need to make chapstick. Starting my business was and wasn’t easy. I had days where I wanted to give up and it was days I was so freaking excited about starting my business. Talking to other small businesses I learned to not give up and to keep promoting my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well my best friend is my cousin latasha and she’s from Atlanta just like me so therefore we’ll just plan a trip to Vegas or some beautiful island and explore together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents Elaine and Sammy, my auntie Felicia, my sisters Siani and Brittnay and my cousin Latasha. They get some credit because they knew I wanted to start my own lipgloss business and they pushed me to do it and I’m thankful for them. Also my son gets some credit too.
