We had the good fortune of connecting with Lavar McRae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lavar, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
My definition of success is striving everyday to be great, not just in one thing I mean in EVERYTHING that you do. You can succeed at anything if you put your heart and mind into it, and not giving up until your job is done.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a songwriter/recording artist/ and record label owner. I’ve been in the music business professionally for ten years. I’ve written for myself and others that have accumulated thousands of streams independently. What set me apart from others is my originality and my passion for the art and how creative I can be on my own. I am very proud to be a owner. My dream was to be successful and start a record label from the ground up. In October 2020 me and my team formed 9TO5IVE Entertainment, LLC and we’ve launched our first project this year and so far it’s doing great. I’ve gotten further in my career by making mistakes, failure has been my greatest teacher, it has definitely landed me where I am today. It was hard at first especially when you’re trying to follow yours dreams. Networking was the hardest thing for me because I was so used to taking care of everything myself, I’ve gotten better throughout the years and now things are falling in place for me. The hardest lesson for me was practicing patience and staying consistent. I’ve always had talent and the potential, but without guidance my habits got in the way of my career. Adversity has made me a very humble person. Ive learned that time is everything and you can’t get it back, never waste it on things that aren’t apart of your purpose. I’ve recently dropped a project and it’s titled ‘Say Less’ which means talk less and do more, and it’s streaming on all digital platforms. More work to come! Thank you so much for your time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well me being a southside native I would suggest that people visit the Harold Chicken & Ice Bar on Old National Hwy the food, music and service are great. For something a little more tasteful because I enjoy seafood, I would suggest The Optimist on Howell Mill great shrimp gumbo. I love to eat by the way lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course! I would like to give a shoutout to my family and my team for letting me really be who I want to be, staying down with me through my highest and lowest times, they know that I’m a hard worker and they trust and believe in my ability. God is first and the rest will follow. Thanks.
