We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauryn Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauryn, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had always had a passion for baking and interested in making treats. I’ve always been a creative person growing up. I came up with the idea for my business from tik tok actually. I had wanted to start doing a side hustle but I didn’t feel like i had a talent. I was on tik tok one day and seen this girl making chocolate covered strawberries and Valentine’s Day was a couple weeks away and it looked pretty easy. I attempted and was just for family and friends but everyone encouraged me to make a business out of it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well for my art i would consider the treats i make. What i believe sets me apart from others is my dedication and hustle. Going hard even when the clientele wasn’t always there. I kept going and posting with no worries and getting my craft out there. How i got here today professionally was just being my own biggest supporter. I would go out on campus and pass out flyers, my boyfriend and i going and putting flyers on cars. Just leaving my info anywhere i could constantly posting on all social media platform to get my business out there. It wasn’t always easy. I had those moments when i felt like i wasn’t good enough, i would constantly compare myself to others treats. I constantly was very hard on myself. There was plenty of times when i had no orders but maybe 1 or 2 and i just felt like i was wasting my time. What got me through the tough times was just staying consistent and never giving up. Doing it every year and giving my all every-time. My friends, family, and s/o always reposted my stuff just as much as i did and that meant the most.. I’ve learned to never give up keep grinding even when it feels like no one is watching and paying attention. If you want it bad enough you bound to get it. I just want everyone to know about me and my business is that i’ve worked hard to get where i’m at. Many sleepless nights, tears, and wanting to give up i kept going because i love Phoenixtreatss. Thats my baby.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places in Atlanta would be the aquarium definitely. I don’t know why i just love the aquarium and dolphin show. There’s so many good food places i couldn’t possibly just pick one but i definitely love breakfast at barney’s. It’s a delicious brunch place with great drinks. I also love the buckhead bar areas, you are bound to have fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person i want to shout out is a women named Zayla. Zayla was also a baker and doing treats at the time but was way more established than me. Her s/o use to be my supervisor at an old job of mine and one day he caught me in Walmart buying stuff for my business and told me how his girlfriend did it as well n he would have her reach out to me. She taught me a lot that I know now as far as technique and marketing. She made my first flyers ever for my business and shouted me out and that’s how I established most of my clientele. I also want to shout out my parents. They pushed me to keep going and always supported me. They are my biggest supporters and always go above and beyond to show it!
