Meet Laurena L. White, MD, MPH, LAc | Founder/Owner/Clinical Director of The Eudaimonia Center

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurena L. White, MD, MPH, LAc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laurena L., what are you inspired by?
LOVE and JOY.
Just saying the words “LOVE and JOY” makes you smile.
Through my work, I have noticed that more often than not, the most challenging obstacle standing in my way, in most people’s ways, of our most joyful lives is… ourselves. In a world that is riddled with injustice, disparity, and even hate, deciding to prioritize LOVE and JOY intentionally can oftentimes feel selfish. We dance with convincing ourselves that it’s not all that important when in the grand scheme of things… these two ARE the things. We are worthy (and capable) of living loving, joyful lives (if we give ourselves permission). LOVE AND JOY (singularly and collectively) are so powerful, and we all deserve more of them both.
Each of are granted just one short and precious life earthside. None of us are guaranteed anything more than we have right in this very moment. So if we don’t have complete control over our lives’ external circumstances, focusing on finding, nurturing, and spreading LOVE AND JOY right now is my way of honoring the light in myself, in others, and serves as thecatalyst for all that I do, all of who I am, and all that I desire to be.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Eudaimonia Center is a bonafide integrative reproductive medicine and women’s firm.
What sets us apart? Our leadership. With over 20 years of service and experience in the field of women’s health ranging from birth doula to obstetrics/gynecology and reproductive endocrinology/infertility including acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, Dr. Laurena White is a disruptor. As the clinical director of The Eudaimonia Center, an integrative reproductive medicine and women’s health firm, she leads a team that facilitates the health, wellness, and healing of complex women’s health challenges including but not limited to uterine fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and fertility challenges without the use of unnecessary pharmaceutical drugs (including synthetic hormones) and fruitlessly invasive surgical interventions.
In a country whose healthcare system falls woefully short of addressing the comprehensive needs of “the least of these”, namely Black women and their children, Dr. White aims to revolutionize the industry one healing experience at a time by being fertile ground in a barren land. She has reimagined what comprehensive women’s healthcare could and should be. As a result, she integrated her practice by forming a synergistic flow between conventional medicine and traditional medicine modalities so the care women receive is not only transformative, it’s also restorative.
Even though Dr. White loved her job as both a clinician and surgeon, there came a point in her career where she wasn’t satisfied with HOW she was doing her job. She needed and wanted more from her profession and her clientele definitely deserved more. However, there was no integrative women’s health centers that truly combined the synergistic elements of both traditional and conventional medicine. So since there wasn’t a table, she built her own… and it hasn’t been easy.
Our model of care is respected (and appreciated) by our clientele because they finally have access to equitable, affordable, and appropriate care. However, integrative care, whole-person care does not neatly fit into the box of conventional medicine. With a focus on preventive care and addressing the root/underlying cause of complex health conditions (rather than chasing and masking symptoms), we are definitely going against the grain. However, as our team grows and we continue to offer various services that are designed to help people heal, we are breaking down barriers and overcoming the challenges that present themselves along the way.
Each new client is a success story. As they embrace the value of a whole-person, integrative approach to their care, they demonstrate that the investment in health, wellness, and healing is worth it. Perseverance, each step of the way, has been the greatest lesson that we’ve embodied along this journey.
Remember that “eudaimonia” means human flourishing and as a firm, we nourish YOUR flourish!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The DC Metro area is one of the best places to be in the summertime!
As there are many things to do in the city, spending a week in Washington DC would be amazing as it would allow you to get to know the city, see all the highlights, and more!
Staying near the National Mall will enable you to be near most of the city’s sights. On the first day, you’ll explore Downtown DC, the center of the city where there is ALWAYS lots of great things to do and see. Here, there are a ton of shops and restaurants that are lovely to visit and there is something for EVERYONE. After experiencing Downtown DC, it is time to go to the most famous place in the city: the White House. The building is such an important and historic building, which makes it a great place to visit and a must-see! After the White House, the National Portrait Gallery, a historic art museum that houses paintings and photos of famous people is great to see and the building of the museum itself is spectacular. In the evening, go to a play or musical at the historic Ford’s Theatre, where the assassination of Abraham Lincoln took place.
Dumbarton Oaks Park is a public park in the city that you can find in Georgetown. Its beautiful historic landscape is amazing to see and is an amazingly relaxing place to walk. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is a great night out and the building itself is very impressive with a striking design!
The Lincoln Memorial is also beautiful place to visit. The statue of Abraham Lincoln is quite impressive.
For nature lovers, Constitution Gardens is a park right at the National Mall and has a lot of beautiful nature to see, which makes it a perfect place for a relaxing stroll before going to see the Washington Monument. The obelisk is a very impressive landmark that you can see from a lot of places in the city because it is so tall. You can also go to the top of the Washington Monument and have a wonderful view of the city.
One of the best, if not THE best museum in Washington, DC is the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Also at the National Mall, you can walk here from the Washington Monument.
The Thomas Jefferson Memorial located at West Potomac Park, honors the Founding Fathers of the United States, and namely Thomas Jefferson, the main author of the Declaration of Independence.
A walk along the cherry blossom tree-lined reservoir allows you to see some of the most famous landmarks and you can also explore the reservoir in a paddle boat at the Tidal Basin.
One of the best places to experience nature in the city is the Botanic Garden, the oldest botanic garden in the country that is still operating. The Orchid House, the Rose Garden, and the Rare and Endangered Plants section are stunning!
Touring the Capitol is a great way to learn more about the building and its function. And through the tours, you can see the interior of the building, which is also amazing.
Lastly, whether you’re a sports fan or not, got to a Nationals game at the park!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, foremost, and always, I give honor to God who has bestowed me with the gifts I possess and continually blesses me with opportunities to serve communities all around the world.
Second, my parents (Joan and Laurence White, Sr.) who have supported each and every one of my wild endeavors even when they didn’t understand or agree. They trusted me with my wings and have allowed me to soar to heights of which they hadn’t even dreamed. Thank you for believing in me!
Third, my little brother, Jordan, who has been a huge support and number one fan all of our lives.
Fourth, the dynamic team of practitioners, providers, healers, and facilitators at The Eudaimonia Center (April, Yvette, Harry, Gabriela, Charnise, Lindsay, Patricia, Renee, Anya, Tralisa, Tracie, and Traequanda). Each of you bring something special to my professional (and personal) life and I appreciate you more than you know, both as individuals and as a cohesive unit. We are revolutionizing this thing from the inside out and I am so very proud of you, the work we’re doing together, and am thankful each day for you!
And to the countless friends, family, teachers, and mentors who have played a role in my growth and maturation along this journey, I am forever grateful from the bottom of my heart!
