We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Lacy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I honestly have been drawing since I was 2 years old, so being an artist is as natural as breathing to me. For as long as I can remember, I knew whatever I did in my career it was going to be in the art world. The fulfillment I receive when I am able to immerse myself in my creativity is like no other. I also love the reactions I get once my clients see the finished product. To bring smiles to others faces and make them genuinely happy with my art is another reason why I have pursued a career in the Arts.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
If I had to say what sets MLS Denim and Miss Lacy Studios, LLC apart from the rest…I would have to say it would be my vision. My vision for my brand is not anyone else’s vision. I bring myself and my creativity to each art piece I envision and then create.
I honestly can say that I am most excited for the future! And when I refer to “the future”, I mean tomorrow, the next day, next week, next year, etc. As an artist each day is never like the next. One day I am creating a denim dress, the next I am working on a children’s book, and the next I could be styling someone for a movie and creating stage props for a musical!
My days tend to be spontaneous, but I can definitively say that IT WAS NOT EASY!!! I had to work hard, deal with a lot of “Independent Entrepreneurs” that sold me pipe dreams, pull all-nighters, etc to get to where I am.
I cannot say that I have overcome every single challenge in my career, but I can say that I am smarter and more aware of what to look out for (ie Clients that cannot pay for my services, people who want to haggle with me about my prices). This lesson is something that you unfortunately will learn overtime, but once it happens make sure you learn from it and DO NOT make the same mistake again.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I honestly would have my best friend and I spend the whole week in the Art Districts of Atlanta! A few of my favorite places is the Little Five Points Area, Castleberry Hill, Piedmont Park, Ponce City Market, the Beltline and the Brookhaven area. All of these areas have some of the nicest and most creative people I have ever met. Walking around in these areas always inspires me and helps to fuel my creativity. Whether it’s in Little Five Points and I’m obsessing over everything in The Clothing Warehouse (and eating at The Vortex) or I am relaxing with friends in Piedmont Park (and talking to random strangers), there is NEVER a dull moment in these parts of Atlanta.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank first & foremost my Heavenly Father, for without him I WOULD NOT have gotten this far. To my best friends, my Parents: thank you for being my rock, my angels and my biggest supporters. Love you to Infinity & back! Special thanks to my friends and family for all of your love and most of all, your prayers & encouragement! Everyone says “It takes a village,” and I am so blessed for “my village.”
