We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren G. Jackson, M.S. M.B.A and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren G., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to leave an impact on the world and create a legacy that would outlive me. My purpose is my business and because of that I spent intentional time and hours creating a discipline that could create and foster impact. From shifting my focus from creating a lifestyle for myself to creating a legacy that would outlive me it required me to not shrink in uncomfortable areas that I was called to stand tall in. This moment literally shifted my perspective and ultimately my life.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business Purposeful Woman LLC, is geared to empower, employ, and uplift the everyday Alpha woman. I coach Alpha women on how to increase their brand visibility, and master the art of effective communication both personally and professionally.
I leaped into my purpose back in 2018, as I was facing a pivotal shift in my personal life, divorce. I was married to my college sweetheart for ten years with 2 handsome sons. As I losing everything that I believed I needed to make me who I was God began to prune me in order to show me who I was actually called to be. I wrote my first book “Purposeful Pain: Give Me Your Isaac” during the emotional rollercoaster of divorce and I published the summer of 2019 after my divorce was final. I spent 18 months building my brand visibility.
To be completely transparent, I had NO idea what I was doing. I was a banker and I knew numbers and sales. Nevertheless, like Moses God gave me an Aaron in the form of Jocelyn Mcelvane. She had been my hairstylist for many years and she was also building her knowledge in the areas of marketing and social media strategies. One afternoon we met at my apartment and made a plan together to build my brand and successfully launch my today, Amazon Best Seller book “Purposeful Pain: Give Me Your Isaac. ”
I didn’t know in 2018 that my brand and business would continue to grow at the rate in which it has, but most importantly leave an impact as much as it has done! Daily, I am still in awe by the emails, DMs, and text messages I receive from someone who has been blessed but my testimony.
Was it easy to live out loud while trying to maintain mental peace? HECK NO! It was worth bringing my pieces to the master artist himself, God, and allow him to create a masterpiece with what I had left. In order to get to the place in which I reside today I had to first learn and accept that none of the paint that I was facing was personal. I had to own my part in creating this mess, and I had to be willing to forgive. This was DEFINITELY a process, but one worth doing!
The lessons that I have learned along the way are:
1. Don’t focus on your feelings, because they are not FACTS.
2. Serving is not about you, it’s about what is outside of you.
3. If God allowed the pain, then that means He also has embedded in you the solution. The solution is the purpose and sometimes it can look like jumbled up words and letters just as embedding and coding does. If you just copy and paste what is there, you will see that the jumble code had order in it. It was designed to work, but I had to be pasted in the right places.
I want the world to know that one’s purpose can still be fulfilled even in places that pain once resided in. When one chooses to operate on purpose it empowers and employs others to do the same. This is how we change our communities, break up with outdated mindsets that were born in pain, and create a life of oneness and peace.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be very honest, and I am not best trip planning person. LOL. I tend to enjoy trips that are very low in activities because my everyday life is full of activities. So here goes my spill….
I would take them to Scottsdale, Arizona for a week of relaxation, rejuvenation, and peace. We would stay at the Civana Resort and spend time reconnecting with ourselves and enjoying each other’s company. At the Civana Resort there are yoga classes, guided hiking trails, and they have one of the best spas in Carefree, AZ.
We would do multiple days of yoga, the spa, hiking, journaling, and resting.
My favorite place to go when I am in Scottsdale is to hike, Pinnacle Peak. It has an amazing view and it is where I often go alone to get clear about the next seasons in my life.
I do enjoy tourist like tours so I would definitely incorporate an activity that allowed us to learn more about the area we are in. I love trying new foods so we would definitely spend time doing so.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I have a village of people that I could send a special shoutout too! I won’t bore you with the list of everyone. LOL!
My father, Pastor Michael Grimes, for lending his mentally agility to me and empowering me to always go outside of the box that others enjoy living comfortably in so that I can achieve optimum results.
My mother, Minister Patsy Jones, for creating the bridge that I would eventually have to cross in order to become an author. My mother is my editor and chief. She has over 30 years of experience as a stenographer and is the absolute best at what she does! Her natural penmanship writing has been the reason that I have been able to increase my own skills of impactful writing.
Sherell Jefferson is one of my closest friends and sisters. She is the reason I became an author. Her vision, belief in me, and faith in God literally carried me through my divorce and she empowered me to SOAR! I am forever grateful for her.
Bianca Teer, is the reason that I took the greatest plunge of my life. When I closed the chapter on my career in banking and finance in order to fully show up in my business and purpose! Her direct and caring love for me saved me from myself, and made me accept that I was standing in my own way and not only delaying my destiny but others. I am forever grateful for her.
Jocelyn Mcelvane, is the reason my story was ever told in an organized manner that shifted the lives of the people that I was called to impact. Her gifting in brand story telling is what helped to put me on the map. I am sooooo grateful for her.
My list could definitely be longer but chileeee we are going to pause it right here.
