We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been a professional actor, singer and dancer up on the stage and screen for almost 20 years. I have worked for some incredible companies and I have worked for some not great companies. Most importantly, I grew tired of feeling as if I was always starting over when a contract finished. Going back to the grind of survival jobs, auditions and wondering where I was going to get my next major paycheck. These very frustrations are what inspired me to chose to go back to school in the fall of 2019 to get my Masters Degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University in Winter Park FL. I wanted to build a business that gives ample opportunities to artists to continue to build upon their career without having to feel as if they are constantly starting over from the beginning. The fact that we produce theatre, film and music not only allows us the opportunity to give a vast amount of work opportunities to our team of artists and creatives, it also allows the production company it’s self the opportunity to gain a higher ROI within the entertainment community.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Breaking Boundaries Productions mission is to break down the boundaries that lie between the live and virtual mediums of entertainment by merging the theatre, film, and music industries together. Creating a triple threat production company that allows for continual growth and a more profitable ROI within the local and global entertainment community. It is our passion to produce stories that inspire, educate, and evoke action for positive change up on the stage, screen, and airwaves. We are currently working on cultivating a team of artists that is first of all fluent and interested in constantly working on projects and/or productions for the stage, screen and radio. We don’t want to produce just one project, distribute and promote it for some time and then let the project run its course. We are thinking much bigger when it comes to promoting and distributing our work. Let’s say we write a song, then next we take that song and produce a movie and/or a stage play or musical based on that original work that is being produced within the Breaking Boundaries Production’s team. It’s that constant flow of production work that we want to offer our artists.
Breaking Boundaries Productions was birthed in 2020, right when the world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Someone might say that it was crazy to dream up something like this at that particular time, however, someone else might call it ingenious. The company its self has gone through numerous evolutions. First it was pitched as a brick and mortar type of business that would house production opportunities for the theatre, film and music industries within the entertainment community. However, due to the economic downfall and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, investors where not so keen on investing towards such a long and unsure investment. Therefore, we decided to move that phase of the business down the road a few years and cancel what was going to be our first production in the fall of 2021. However, the “show must go on” with a little creativity and perseverance. That is when we decided to scale back a little bit and break some boundaries and make the company an online/remote production company. If you go to our team page on our website, you will notice that our team resides all over the United States. We also decided to scale back ever so slightly and instead of making our first production a huge theatrical endeavor, we decided to write, produce and distribute under our brand a debut single called “The Letter” in honor of our nation’s Veterans scheduled to release November 11th. This single will lead to numerous projects to follow distribution per following in line with our brands mission statement.
It is never easy opening up a new business, now add a global wide pandemic that shut down the world, which still has lingering after effects on the entertainment industry can make starting a production company seem at times impossible. However, the team at Breaking Boundaries Productions believe that nothing is impossible. There is always a new way to look at things. We are never afraid of trying something new to get to the other side of the boundary that is before us. I believe that is what excites me the most about my ever growing business. Is it the easy route? By all means absolutely not! However, it is the most rewarding and I will continue to follow that path for the rest of my career.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The saying “it takes a village” is not an understatement when it comes to the numerous influences and continuous support from the people who surround and teach me on a daily basis. However, there are three people who deserve all the recognition in the world when it comes to finding the success that I have found today within my career. First and foremost is my husband, Jose Borro II, who is constantly encouraging me to take control of my own career and make a path for myself within the entertainment industry. Second, is my sister Lindsay Bell Brown, she has always been my number one cheerleader, she is also the featured choreographer on the Breaking Boundaries team. We have worked together pretty much our entire career in various different capacities. Lindsay is always the one you go to if you want to hear the truth, she will not sugar coat it, which is great for when you are creating and building something new. Then finally, my mom, Jeanne Bell is the one who encouraged me to go back to school to get my masters degree, to think outside the box, dream big and go after what I really wanted for my career. Which is why I wrote the song “The Letter” in her honor.
