We had the good fortune of connecting with Laur’e Pen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laur’e, how do you think about risk?
I think there is no growth without risk. Risk has caused me to feel uncomfortable, without a doubt having to face some of the hardest challenges of my life. But risk also brought out my greatest strengths. Ones I never would have found if not pushed to my limit of capability. Risks helped me discover my passion for writing jingles. I am still learning my capabilities to this day.
I remember working a dead end job back in Ohio where I’m from. I always knew I wanted to sing, and write songs for stars. I used to fantasize about it even. However, the environment I grew up in did not provide much inspiration for my dreams to come into fruition. So I took a risk, and quit my job. I moved to Atlanta, with about $500 to my name, and whatever belongings I put in my car. I had no real plan, outside of initially going there to record an album with some connections I made. That was 5 years ago.
Fast forward to today, I have successfully graduated with a music degree, I have jingles on the local Atlanta radios, and working in the TV/Film industry.
Point is, if I had not taken some type of risk, I can confidently say I would not have hit a lot my music goals.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a naturally creative person. Currently I write jingles for various companies. However, I started off singing and songwriting.
I think what sets me apart from others is my perspective on the process of success. The story goes, it took Thomas Edison 10,000 attempts to create the light bulb. One could say that’s 10,000 failures, or one could say that’s 10,000 ways “not” to make a light bulb. So now the narrative is more informative than frustrating. All perceived failures are a part of the process for success.
I’m most proud about getting my radio placement here in Atlanta for a few of my jingles. It was literally something I manifested, and I am so thankful to have that experience, and many more to come!
Heck no it was not easy! When I first started writing jingles, I locked in on specific companies. There were so many no’s I received on my pitches before I actually got a hit. How I overcame the no’s were remaining consistent and disciplined in mastering the craft! There were things I discovered through the process of submitting that helped me become a better writer, and in turn helped my presentation for the eventual yes.
Lessons I’ve learned in life? The world is my blank canvas, I am the painter. It can and will be whatever I make it. Manifestation is real, and power truly does lie in the tongue. No one can narrate your story of success but you!
I want the world to know that I’m not just a jingle writer, I create experiences through music. Everything I write is customized personally for your brand. I’m open to working with companies that are interested in enhancing their marketing promotions through jingles. I also write music for film, and TV.
