We had the good fortune of connecting with Latrice Knuckolls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latrice, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Embrace Your Identity Life Coaching was something that came to me from my own experiences as a single mother. My struggle with my own Identity started when I became a mother at 21. Prior to that, I thought I had it all figured out. I was in school to be a nurse. I was starting a modeling career and then that all changed. I had my son and then things got super real. It was no longer about me and that transition to motherhood was extremely difficult. I struggled with the idea that I was a stereotype, single mother, baby daddy in prison, no support, really. I had bad credit and owned nothing. How did I get here? Is this really going to be my life? For me, that answer was simply no. I wanted too much out of life, and my kid deserved even more. I’ve always said there is a very fine line between being complacent in your circumstances and choosing to fight past them. I wanted to fight. I wanted to grow and learn how to move past my circumstances. While wanting this so bad, I quickly realized that resources and support were very limited. It seemed that the only way I could get help as a single mother was if I settled on having nothing. There was no help for mothers like myself who worked really hard, made 2 cents over the income guideline pre-taxed and still struggled. That is what motivated me to start Identity.

Initially, I wanted to be this savior that single mothers like myself needed. I was going to create an organization that helped mothers like myself figure out life. But as my journey continued and as I began to learn and develop and grow into womanhood and motherhood, my vision for Identity changed. What I realized was young women go through so many different stages and identities. As we grow, we are forever changing. There are so many variations of who we are. So many of us feel lost, stuck, confused, inadequate, or not enough. We struggle with loving ourselves, our mistakes, our past that we feel define us. All of those things are a part of our process. what if we embrace those parts of us and understand that to be the woman you aspire to be, all those emotions and experiences are necessary. What if we learned to look in the mirror at ourselves, at our lives, and embrace our journeys and who we are. So with all of that being said I created Embrace Your Identity LLC! As a Personal Development/Life Coach I want to be the support system for women and young mothers that I did not have. I want to be a beacon in my community that provides motivation, support, and resources that can make someone else’s journey a bit easier.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Personal Development Coach who helps young mothers step into who they aspire to be. My goal is to guide them based off of their personal needs to gain clarity and vision for their life. Sometimes we want so much for ourselves but simply do not know which direction to go to get there. That’s where I step in as their coach to help guide them and be a resource to them, knowing firsthand the struggles of life they are experiencing as a single mother. What sets me apart is I have been exactly where they are. I know what it takes to shake the negative self-talk we tell ourselves that sometimes keeps us stuck. I am very transparent about my own experiences and that helps my clients not feel judged but understood. I provide a safe space for these young mothers to release and build. I am so proud and passionate about this work and beyond proud of the success I have had with my clients. Seeing their growth and stepping into their Identity brings me so much joy.

The road to entrepreneurship, I can say for certain that road has not been an easy one! On my journey I have had to maintain a home for my children on my own, sometimes jobless. I have had to hustle to keep food on the table and a roof over my children’s heads at times. I have been heartbroken by my family members and by people I have chosen to share my life with. My mental health took a back seat, and I have experienced depression and anxiety. I have had to fight to get a diagnosis for the pain and fatigue I have felt everyday for years because, as a black woman, our medical needs are rarely taken seriously. So easy, not at all! But what it has been is worth it. Would I change anything about it? Absolutely not! Because of these experiences, I am able to sit here and talk about my journey with you. I am who I am today because of these experiences. I have gained so much from them and have grown from those struggles, and that’s what Identity is about Embracing all of those moments and being a better you from them. That is the piece of me I want to share with these women with the world. Those very struggles that I had to embrace to get to this place right now. My story that is how I am able to do this work so passionately. That is the mark I want to leave on these women, I want them to see me and be inspired. I want them to know that you are not alone and that you can make it as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I am a foodie and love being out doors. The 1st stop would be up to Marietta to grab the best tacos you could ever experience. Birria El Gordo, you will not be disappointed hands down best barrio tacos! Next you have to take a trip to the belt line especially if it is warm. You can spend a whole day here just eating, walking, riding bikes, bar hopping. Its a whole vibe! my favorite part is the east side extension. While on the belt line be sure to stop by Ponce City Market and go to the roof top and have a drink. The view is spectacular! Another fav of mine is Eight Sushi. The sushi and cocktails are amazing, and it has a really laidback vibe. A great brunch spot is Breakfast at Barneys the wait is typically long but the food is great!. Another place I love is A little bit of a drive to Snellville right out of the city but So worth it. It is called Escovitch. It is an upscale Jamaican Resturant. The food and drinks are Amazing. If you make that ride you will not regret it. I recommend the Jamaican Platter so you can taste some of everything. Piedmont Park is another favorite outdoors place of mine I can go there and relax and meet super cool people any day of the week. While there be sure to visit the botanical Gardens.
