We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTreuna Huntley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaTreuna, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make is decide to show self compassion for who I used to be and accept the woman I’m becoming fully.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a licensed Life & Health Advisor, I specialize in assisting those with finding the best health coverage suitable for their own personal needs and/or small business needs. Unlike most advisors I seek to educate my clients on what to consider when deciding their health insurance based on their current situation. As a young girl I always received satisfaction from helping people, whether that was satisfying a sweet tooth by selling popcorn balls or even helping plus sized women find clothes that suited them the most. It hasn’t always been easy and I am indeed still learning, but the journey is definitely one that I have grown to appreciate. It has enabled me to learn a lot about myself and who I am to become. Through it all I’ve learned that change and taking that leap of faith can be difficult , but also choosing to be stagnant because of fear and the feeling of lack is difficult, so you should always choose your difficulties wisely. Coming from someone who was used to working long hours in warehouses to make sure someone else’s dream happens to working full time for myself helping others, I’m here to tell you the change starts within if you see it for yourself, just know it starts with you to make it happen. Practice being who you see yourself to be, change those habits, switch your perception, and watch how life works for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend were to come to visit me for a week, being from Alabama it’s only right for starters that I cooked her breakfast. I would then more than likely than take her to the Ipic movie theater and hope that she doesn’t fall asleep from the comfy chairs they have to offer. I would then later take her to a open mic show whether that would be at Poetry on Peter or Urban Grind. We also appreciate art so a visit to the museum wouldn’t seem so bad neither and also because it is the summer time I am almost certain that we would be at someone’s festival having the time of our lives.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my beautiful Mother (LaSonya Huntley) and Aunt (LaWonda Roberts) for helping me and guiding me through life. These are two of the strongest most resilient women I know. They showed me what it is to push thru hard times and to be discipline and diligent in my efforts. They gave me great examples of moral integrity and showed me the true meaning of sisterhood and community.
