We had the good fortune of connecting with Latrell Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latrell, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about my industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is the time commitment. With my business ‘Talks With Trell’, I take hours coming up with creative content that is not only content, but engaging content. For my Music Mania segment I can spend up to 45 minutes coming up with the best features for each day. For my main segment which are the news pieces spend at least 10 minutes on. Being a journalist fact checking is everything so majority of the time comes from researching.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the Human Resources Specialist for a community health center in Kentucky where I am over recruiting and marketing. Getting to this point in my professional career wasn’t easy. I worked constantly to get to this far. I stayed focused and I prayed constantly. I knew this was the career and life that I wanted so I kept my dream alive. This dream is what got me through my bachelors and both of my masters programs which opened up this door for my career. The lessons I learned was to never give up because you never know how close you are to accomplishing your dream. What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is I worked to build myself and my brand from the ground up. I had so many people tell me I wouldn’t achieve success in this field, but I proved them wrong and I continue to do so each and every day. My brand represents determination. I am also the Digital Communications Manager for the Harbor Institute where I engage in different strategies to promote the activities of the organization through media.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anytime me and the besties link up its a movie! We all like to try new things so we most definitely will be doing things out of our comfort zone. I have a best friend who is vegan so we most definitely will be going to Slutty Vegan. But if I had to break it down we would absolutely be doing brunch. BQE is amazing and is a vibe, of course we would be doing some site seeing throughout the city. Coming from a small place such as Kentucky big cities amaze us.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my family for the continued support, my friends (General Studies) for always pushing me to knock down every obstacle that I’m faced with, my frat bros and my sorors for always cheering me even when I am down on myself. Everyone who I mentioned has impacted me and influenced me in some type of way and I am genuinely grateful to have these people in my life. I owe my success to them.
