We had the good fortune of connecting with LaToya Folks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaToya, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my strong faith in God. He is my source of motivation, and my constant reminder of the importance of resilience in the face of challenges. My faith has played a central role in shaping my values, guiding my decisions, and providing me with strength and guidance during both the triumphs and trials of business. It has instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and gratitude which fuels my passion for making a positive impact in the world while serving others.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Generation Now Enterprise was birthed at the start of the pandemic in response to the changing needs of small business owners. At that time my husband and I owned a restaurant that was facing challenges due to the uncertainty brought on by the global epidemic. Like most business owners the pandemic impacted our business in ways that we were not prepared for. And as a result we eventually had to close our doors. This was an extremely difficult time for us as we had spent so much time building a brand that people had already grown to love. Even though we were devastated about how things turned out we knew God had a greater assignment. There were many entrepreneurs just like us who found themselves faced with the same decisions and unable to find any solutions. It was then that Generation Now Enterprise, a consulting firm, was created with the mission to help Entrepreneurs take control of their businesses by means of leveraging their business assets paired with new innovative marketing strategies to recreate a business better equipped for our new economy.

Generation Now is a brand that stands for resilience. We often feel defeated when things don’t go as planned in life and in business but what we want people to learn from our story is that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back from adversity; it’s about rising stronger and wiser than before. Our journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that setbacks are simply stepping stones to success. Through our own challenges, we’ve discovered the importance of adaptability, innovation, and unwavering faith. So, what I want others to learn from our story is that even in the face of adversity, there’s always an opportunity to reinvent, rebuild, and emerge even stronger. With the right mindset and determination, you can turn obstacles into opportunities and write your own story of triumph.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to Detroit for the week there are a few places that are must stops in our itinerary. Since I am a foodie we would definitely check out some of my favorite restaurants like Checkmate, District Seventy8 and Sweetwater. Because Detroit is die-hard sports fans it would only be right to attend a Lions or Tigers game depending on the season. To really take in the beautiful art and history of Detroit we would take a tour of the Motown Museum, eat dinner on a day cruise on the princess boat overlooking the Detroit River with beautiful views of Downtown Detroit and Canada. For some late night fun we would visit Gilly’s Rooftop Clubhouse, hang out at the Belt, and join a ride on the pedal bar Detroit Roll House. To end the trip with a little tranquility we’d eat lunch at the Riverfront while admiring the water, unwind in a themed hot tub lounge at DBW spa and enjoy live music and a glass of wine from MotorCity Wine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family especially my husband and children who have been my biggest contributors to my success. Wearing multiple hats as an Entrepreneur, Wife and Mom has presented its share of challenges but my family is always there to remind me to never lose sight of the mission. Their love and encouragement has been instrumental in shaping my journey and enabling me to pursue my passions and aspirations. They deserve all the credit and recognition for their role in my success.
