We had the good fortune of connecting with Latoya Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latoya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The first thought that came to mind was how do I even start? Where does one begin to build a brand from scratch with no resources? All I knew was that it had to get done one way or another. Making sure I reached my target audience with authentic production was a major priority. Starting your own business is easier said than done!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The challenges of becoming an Author was more rewarding than I thought. Once you step into your purpose the troubles of starting your own business turns into motivation. One must keep pushing forward to accomplish the goal. The idea behind launching my first novel was to spread awareness for the culture. Someone’s life lesson may help someone else! We all got a story to tell. My storytelling is a style within itself. It’s extremely necessary to capture the moment in every detail. Just know I’ll have you wanting to read more!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a city full of entertainment and fabulous restaurants! When visiting ATL you must stop by Nouveau for a delicious brunch. The food is amazing and the staff is friendly. After eating all that food you might want to take a walk through Atlanta Botanical Garden. The scenery is beautiful. If you’re looking for some physical activities head on down to Top Golf and show off those athletic skills. Let’s not forget shopping! Atlantic Station has plenty of boutiques and services that will surely keep any visitor busy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout, “ Life Lessons!” In life we all go through trials and tribulations. These chains of events turn us into the people we are today! I decided to become a storyteller and let the ink do the talking!
