We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTonya Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaTonya, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As I have matured and grown within my profession as well as being a wife and mother work/life balance can be challenging. I went from being just a 9-5 single women to being married with kids, a full time job, realtor and landlord. I am a very active parent in my children’s live to that adds another layer. Honestly, some nights I’m up until 2am working on projects, contracts, or reports.

I am learning now that I must take time to enjoy the benefits of my success and spend quality time with family and friends.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently the Associate Compliance Officer for the Office of Compliance and Ethics at my alma mater; Florida A&M University, Realtor and Investor. Anyone that knows me knows that when I say I’m going to do something you can consider it done, From late nights studying with a baby for my Masters to juggling and wear multiple hats Ill get it all done. One important lesson I learned was if I wanted something I had to go out and get it, speak up, network and show up. No one is entitled to do anything for me. I’m competitive by nature so I love challenges. Anytime something happened that I thought would hinder or stop me I would lean on Romans 8:28.

I want the world to know that I faced adversity like most people do. I refused to be a product of adversity rather a testimony others could use to help motivate them to keep going. No one life is perfect and as long as we are alive when can fight another day for whatever we want in life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My goal is to make it to the Motherland; Africa. I want to stand in front of the pyramids and bask in the brilliance of my ancestors. I would love to go on a night safari and wake up with the elephants. Experiencing African culture and dance would be a definite. One day we would go on a boat ride and end with meeting the penguins There’s just so much to do and I would be game for it all whether it’s climbing mountains in Cape Town, or cruising along the Nile. I would do it all!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I have to thank God. Nothing I have or who I am would be possible without him. My mother for being the example of a strong woman and showing me that I can do anything I put my mind to. I saw my mom to do it all; she made everything look so easy although I know it was not. Next Florida A&M University for molding me to who I am today. Lastly but certainty not least my husband and children for always supporting me and making me feel like a superwoman.
