We had the good fortune of connecting with La’Tisa Ward and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi La’Tisa, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art fuels me. Acting is absolutely my passion and I would say my favorite art form, however, any form of art is empowering to me. Most people know me as an actor, but one of my favorite things to also do is write! It’s truly calming and I believe there’s something about being able to express myself (even if it’s just to myself), that just gets me going. It keeps me alive inside and happy. When I’m acting or writing, I can be seen and heard from other perspectives. There’s barely any judgment and misconceptions towards me for a change because they’re watching portrayed ‘characters’, therefore, I don’t have to consume any external opinions about characters personally. My favorite forms of art include writing and performing, along with MUSIC. Art has been my saving Grace and opportunities to be confident in my own skin and space, showing my creativity saves me on a daily, as I escape to properly function as God intended for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want to change lives of those who see my work and also offstage, to those who don’t. Before acting, trust was a big issue to embark in. But after years of learning and relationship building, I am now able to trust. Acting allows me to be comfortable being uncomfortable. I’m most proud of the stage play I starred in playing the role of the great historical figure Sojourner Truth. Throughout that journey, I found many similarities between she and I and the whole process of it all helped me to understand the type of actor I want to ultimately be! Burning Sands, a Netflix original was my first film experience. I will forever remember learning the basics of film alongside legends like Alfre Woodard and Steve Harris. This journey has not been easy to say the least, but well worth it. I wouldn’t want it any other way and I honestly can’t even imagine doing anything else. Hmm, maybe journalism and news anchoring, which I consider a form of acting as well, haha.

As I progress in my career, to the art form, I will offer my talent, skills, personality and desire. To the community, I will offer hope, knowledge, and inspiration as a vessel of God.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Okay so let me first just say that my best friend and I are literally like the equals of your great grandparents! He and I love to sleep, eat, argue and cancel any plans we have had with others or each other just to lay in bed together. But sometimes we turn our Saucy Santana and City Girls on and get it together. In Atlanta, Harold’s Chicken and Ice Bar is a must. We love the hookah there as well! Rodney’s in Smyrna is a lock but we know not to order drinks there!! We can’t hold their liquor!! Cute picnics at Centennial Olympic Park suits us also. One day has to be designated to Six Flags and we’ll definitely hit up Cumberland or Lenox Square. Wow, look at me sounding like a true ATLien haha. Oh wait, last but not least, THIS IS EAT soul food!!! I wouldn’t trade their sweet potato soufflé for anything.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my mother for always supporting my dreams and even if she had to sit in the audience alone, she was still there. As we grow in life, I’m still thankful for the upbringing and those small gestures because her dedication played a role in the molding of who I am today. Thanks momma Tisa!
