We had the good fortune of connecting with Latika Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latika, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from a small town south of Atlanta called Palmetto, Georgia. growing up, my dad was an entrepreneur. He owned his own business, my entire life, and he was also a pastor. Just watching him as I grew up, I saw his work ethic, I saw how committed he was to his business, his church and his family. He gave me the very first business I ever had. I was 20 and he rented a space so I could do hair. I later quit cosmetology, but I never gave up on being an entrepreneur. My dad never gave up on his business, even when there were bad days or bad weeks or bad months. I would think of him when I was having a bad day businesswise. I think that’s how I have been able to stay true to myself, and true to the brand that I am working every day to build.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I transitioned from online retail to a series I have called Confession Mondays. It started out as me just telling my side of the story live on Facebook, and then it just became bigger than me. I then went on to start my podcast on Apple and I havd a Kindle series as well and I still occasionally do the live on Facebook because that’s where I started. It’s what I love doing,
getting to this point was not easy because I had to expose myself to everybody in order to tell my side of the story which can go good or bad a lot of times it went bad. The criticism of what I was doing kind of discouraged me a lot, but the people that continue to reach out to me every Monday ready to hear my side of the story. Ready to hear about what I have been through or things I had done is what motivated me to keep going. Out of all the businesses I have owned or still do on starting Confession Monday was the best idea I have ever had. In a world where I often feel like an OutKast or alone in general confession Monday gave me a voice it allowed me to be seen, and it allowed me to find people that had similar situations and similar life experiences, and it allowed me to be True Self.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have my day ones: people that supported me whether I was selling clothes or preparing tax returns or when I transitioned over to my podcast and writing my Kindle series.
