We had the good fortune of connecting with LaTasha Tonkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaTasha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to make a difference and impact the lives of others. So, I thought how could I do this? What better way to impact other Ms and make a difference than to start a school, where I can mold and shape our leaders of tomorrow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an educator that has a passion to see young adults achieve their goals and dreams that they set out to accomplish. I am so proud of myself for finally starting a school. I would always talk about starting one but I finally did it and I’m so grateful that I did. It took a lot of praying, self talks, encouragement, planning, people saying that I could not do it and a lot of determination to get to where I am. One thing I’ve learned is that people will always tell you what you can’t or shouldn’t do when it comes to your goals and dreams. It’s up to you to believe them or not. It has not been easy. To be honest I still have challenges that I have to fight through but because of the determination I have I’m not letting anything or anyone stop me from moving forward. I’ve learned to keep focused ,to believe more in myself and don’t look back. Look out world here comes David & Goliath Cultural Arts Academy,LLC and we are here to be impactful and change the world of education as we know it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Cafe Intermezzo. it’s one of my favorite places to go. The have all different types of teas and coffee flavors! We would go to the park for a little walk and talk. We would definitely have to visit the botanical gardens. The smell of fresh blooming flowers, I just love. I’m a lover of people and cultures. I’m open to learning about people and where they come from.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for everything! Without him I am absolutely nothing. Secondly, I would like to thank my sister Ashley M. Tonkins for the love and support that she has shown me throughout my journey starting this school. She has believed in me since day one. I appreciate all the prayers and encouraging words. Last but not least my friends Ebony Peterson and Brian J. Morris they are always showing lots of love and giving lots of support!
