We had the good fortune of connecting with Latasha Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Latasha, what do you want people to remember about you?
I would like to be known as the builder of bridges. I want my legacy to be that of love and concern for others. In my work at Be the Bridge, I want people to know me now and remember me as a great leader who loved others well. I want there to be a thumbprint of justice and righteousness that I leave behind.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Be the Bridge’s vision is that people and organizations are aware and responding to the racial brokenness and systemic injustice in our world. People are no longer conditioned by a racialized society but are grounded in truth. All are equipped to flourish.

Cross-racial dialogue is the key to the work that Be the Bridge does. We stand in the middle of the messiness and hold all of the tensions of the work of racial reconciliation. We are equipping people to go and do and be bridge builders.

Some organizations do the work of equipping, some do the relational work, at Be the Bridge, we do both. We build relationships and create and share resources, tools, guides, and community with schools, churches, corporations, businesses, organizations and groups across the country. Be the Bridge groups exist all over the country and in 13 other countries around the world.

Our biggest opportunity is with our youth and university students. We are equipping young people by giving them the language and the courage they need to be bridge builders in racial reconciliation work. We are giving them the tools and community they need to both find and be the safe place on their campuses.

This road and this work is rarely easy. God put me where I am today. As a Black woman of faith in the South, doing the work of racial healing all while DEI programs are being stripped, you get left out of a lot of conversations.

Sometimes unintentionally, in the faith space, people look to white men for guidance, but knowing who I am and understanding my purpose and my call, I am assured in who I am and the work I need to do. I am not looking to other people, I look to God, knowing that when a door closes, it is not the door for me.

I want the world to know that what I am doing has been set before me to do. I am doing the next right thing that I know to do. I am giving my whole heart because everything I am doing is nothing that I thought I could do. However, I always knew I would lead. I never imagined that I would be doing this, but now that I am, I have poured my heart into building bridges.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad and my friend Nancia. She was someone who saw greatness and saw me before I saw myself. Nancia left a legacy of faith. She has always believed in me and supported me. Nancia and I had been the closest of friends since childhood, standing by each other through every joy and challenge. Her presence in my life was a source of strength, laughter, and unwavering support.

Nancia was more than a friend; she was family. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine nature touched the lives of so many, mine included.
