We had the good fortune of connecting with LaShea Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaShea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, it’s kind of crazy how things happened.
Like not to sound arrogant or anything, but I’ve always known there was something special about me and that I would eventually own a business of my own. I just wasn’t sure WHAT I would be doing.
I’ve always had a love for arts and crafts, and I guess genetically speaking lol- it was passed down to me- as my dad is an artist.
I remember how it all started- I made a set of collage photo letters for myself and after posting to my social media, I received a lot of positive feedback and many people wanted to place orders.
When Christmas came around, I started making hand painted Santa letters and that’s when I really grasped the concept that I could make money doing something I enjoyed.
It was at least another year or so before I started my business officially- and I can remember purchasing a Cricut machine in 3 easy payments with QVC and my mom actually purchased my first heat press.
At the time, I was still working a full-time job, but I was making a lot of money making custom items, mostly t-shirts.
My job was stressful. I remember thinking, if I could just quit my job and focus solely on working my business I should be able to match my salary at the time.
And although I was a little apprehensive about if I could actually do it or not- I went for it.
Fast forward to a year and a half into the business and I was able to make my entire salary at my then full time-job within a few months.
I also had some really great people in my life who believed in me… who poured into me and really saw things that I didn’t even see at the time.
For that… I’m forever grateful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the proud owner and founder of M. LaShea & Company, where I have the pleasure of “making beautiful things for beautiful people”. Currently I specialize in digital design and most recently started offering wholesale craft supplies as well as business consulting services.
What sets me apart from others is my work ethic and my drive. I’ve been told by many people, that they have no idea HOW I do everything I do. And the truth is, it’s my HUNGER and my DRIVE that fuels me.
Once you tap into the “unthinkable” and achieve things that you had no idea you could, you unlock your truest potential and from there the only option is to elevate.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m assuming this question is in reference to Atlanta lol- and honestly speaking, it’s been a VERY long time since I last visited.
My husband and I used to frequent the city about every other weekend when we lived closer and some of our favorite spots were Benihana, Pappadeaux and the downtown area for sporting events and shows.
I’m from the country- in the Deep South so the “city” will always be special.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First major shoutout to my AMAZING personal assistant, Mickia Jolley who nominated me.
I would also like to dedicate this shoutout to my fellow “dreamers”.
The people who dream the wildest dreams and have the brightest visions… KNOW THIS, with GOD ALL things are possible.
And I’m living proof that an idea (no matter how big or small) + dedication and commitment is the blueprint for success.
Let NO ONE hinder you… people may DOUBT you… and have a hard time understanding YOUR vision and that’s okay! Just don’t let it stop you. COMMIT 110% of yourself to achieving your goals and success will follow.
DREAMS DO COME TRUE….. when you MAKE them!
