We had the good fortune of connecting with LaShayla Lanier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaShayla, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think that risk-taking is essential in my journey as an entrepreneur. Because I took a leap of faith I was able to resign from my job and pursue multiple business ventures. It wasn’t easy but my thought process was ‘the greater the risk, the greater reward’. Within four months I was able to generate over six figures in revenue from opening my first business. Had I not taken the risk, I would not have realized my true potential to excel as a business woman. I knew that it was only up from there.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently, I am a licensed real estate agent and investor who owns five businesses including The Shuga Shack, a luxury event hall and restaurant, and Tru Hair Palace, the first Black-owned full-essential beauty supply store located in the heart of downtown Statesboro, Georgia. I also own several real estate properties in Georgia and Florida. The road to get to where I am today was not always easy, but my determination, ambition and will to succeed saw me through. I’ve overcome many obstacles business-wise but I’ve always maintained an achiever’s mindset and kept my eyes on the end goal and things worked out just as they should. I’ve faced adversity but I understood that dreams don’t come easy they come true.

I’ve learned a lot along the way. I’ve learned patience and that everything has a process and comes with time. I’ve also learned to show up as my true and authentic self, even in business. I know that there are people watching me and I want to be an inspiration to those who may just a need a boost to take a chance on themselves and reach for their dreams. I want the world to know that I am here. I am striving to inspire. I am aspiring to create a quality empire of of Black-owned businesses that will pave the way for those to follow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I currently live in Miami, so the options to entertain are endless. First, we’d visit South Beach for a day of fun in the sun. Then we’d head to Los Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale for night on the town. This area offers great food and drinks and live ocean-front entertainment. It makes for a great night. For day trip, we’d drive down to the Florida Keys for an ocean adventure of snorkeling and scuba diving. The road trip itself is a treat! I’d probably leave the rest of the week open for relaxation and spontaneous outings.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my late father Melvin Lanier, Sr. He is the one who instilled a strong work ethic and a sense of ambition in me at an early age. He led by example and showed me what it truly was to make something out of nothing. This is also dedicated to my children. I’m their Super Woman. I want to continue to show them that anything is possible. They have all broken generational curses in many aspects and I hope my efforts continue to inspire them towards greatness.
