We had the good fortune of connecting with Lashawn Gee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lashawn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business has always been that I feel like I can impact more people positively from what I create myself than sitting behind someone else’s desk in their four walls on their time clock. There’s nothing wrong with working for someone else, I will do it proudly and in excellence, I just know that God created me to harness my own greatness to create leaders.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ElleGee (“LGee” my first initial and my last name) Wellness Solutions is a discipline and wellness brand dedicated to teaching female student-athletes and overwhelmed women who’ve experienced unhealthy emotional relationships how to activate their discipline muscle so they can ditch bad habits, create and sustain healthy habits and implement routines in their life so they can work well and live well. I’m different from other businesses because I truly come from an experience background. Yes, I have education around the topic, also, and I continue to educate and stay abreast of trends in my industry, but there’s nothing like sitting down with someone like they’re your homegirl and getting down to the raw and the real so they can take action boldly towards the goals that matter to them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, being that I moved to Atlanta last June in the middle of the pandemic, I am still learning much of the city myself, LOL. The city was shut down when I got here, and I was very leery to go out and explore, too. BUT, as far as food, you can’t visit me and not visit Slutty Vegan! I don’t eat red meat, poultry, or pork, so this is a big go-to spot for me as far as burgers and fries go. I also love smoothie bowls, Playa Bowls has been my new stop for the best smoothie bowls because they have TONS of options (can you tell that I have a thing for food?). As far as going out, I haven’t been bold enough to go somewhere without feeling uncomfortable, yet, so the verdict is still out! If I just want to go out and get great fresh air, we’ll take a walk through Freedom Park or Piedmont Park. I’m pretty health-conscious, so hiking Stone Mountain (when it’s warm) is definitely on the menu at some point. I make my own mean drink, but if I wanted to go out and grab one, one spot I’ve gone to where I’ve enjoyed their drinks is Apt4B.
Atlanta has always been a great place to me when I used to visit. Now that I’m a resident and we are getting closer and closer to being in a space of normalcy while still living in this pandemic, venturing into the city is something I’m looking forward to getting out and doing! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to Candace Doby. 1) for nominating me for this interview, and 2) for always opening my eyes and reminding me of my courage and my dopeness. She lifts me up even when she doesn’t think she is, and I’m so grateful to her for that!
