We had the good fortune of connecting with LaSha N. White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaSha, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The most important decision I made for my success was not caring what people think about me. I didn’t want to post my content on Instagram because I knew the people over there lol. Overcoming my hesitation to post there, despite having fewer followers than on TikTok. I initially prioritized a personal connection with my smaller Instagram audience, but when I realized the untapped potential, I embraced it and grew so much. This shift boosted my overall engagement and reach more than I could’ve thought in such a short amount of time so I was like ‘Damn girl, why haven’t we been doing this before?!’
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create informational videos on social media (Instagram & TikTok) that revolve around the intersection of affordable travel and overcoming anxiety. I have built a community by showcasing that travel is accessible to everyone, regardless of their budget or anxiety levels. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore the world, and financial constraints shouldn’t be a barrier. I’ve gained followers by demonstrating that travel can be affordable through creative solutions like trip payment plans. I’ve struggled with anxiety, especially during travel. However, I’ve found that confronting and embracing the challenges of traveling has been therapeutic for me. By sharing my personal journey, I aim to inspire others with anxiety to step out of their comfort zones and experience the world.
I’m mostly proud of building my following to over 200k across platforms. People actually come to me for advice and tips and I think sometimes I have imposter syndrome, like there’s no way these people are coming to me! I’m learning to embrace it and look at myself as an expert. I think this also contributed to how hard it was to get here. I was my own worst enemy. I would undermine my own confidence..I would procrastinate on pushing out content, and I would be hesitant to seek out opportunities to help me grow.
To overcome this, I would set realistic goals for myself. I would set goals like gain 100k followers in 9 months, like what girl? LOL..I learned to be more realistic and that helped me a lot. I would challenge my negative thoughts and learn to understand the value that exists in failure. You have to fail to succeed and its okay. As long as you keep it pushing.
I’m also super proud of myself for maintaining my social media presence while still having a full-time job, being a mom to 3 kids and a wife! I also do resumes and interview prep for people anxious about the job search process outside of my travel content because my full-time job is in HR and I want to help the people!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OMG I love this question!! A week in DC? Here’s what I would do!
Brunch in DC is a vibeee! You can’t come to the city without going to brunch on Sunday. Some also have Saturday, and it’s hard to NOT find one that’s bottomless! I’d recommend Focus DC, Gryphon, Harlot, or Air. If you just want a cute brunch, try Uncaged Mimosas, La Vie, Station 4, Agora, Sequoia, or Ilili. There are a bunch of others, I definitely suggest looking on TikTok! The party brunches also turn into day parties, so its a whole day situation!
Take a day and visit the monuments. Start at the Mall. Visit the Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool. Walk towards the monument, but stop at the World War II memorial on the way. If you’re visiting during Cherry Blossom Season, it’s the best, so pretty, but so many people. Walk toward the Tidal Basin..there’s a tulip garden which is cute for pictures, and the view of the Jefferson Memorial across the water.
Take another day to visit the Museums. The best thing about museums in my city is that they’re free. So free. Free as hell. The must visit museums to me are the Hirshorn Museum, Air & Space Museum, Botanical Gardens and the African American History Museum. The African American museum would be my number one choice. The passes are timed and go fast, so get them in advance. Also try Dopamine Land.
If you like the club scene, visit St. Yves!
For activities, try Swingers, Beat The Bomb, visit Georgetown, Gravelly Point Park for a picnic and plane watching, Artechouse, take pics at City Center, Balian Springs Spa, Throw Social, visit The Wharf DC,
Food & Drinks, try Skydome, King St. Oyster Bar, L’ardente, Filomena, Smoke & Mirrors, Surfisde Tacos, Kitchen & Kocktails, The Vue DC, 12 Stories, Never Looked Better Speakeasy
I have so much more, but I know I already did too much for this question, LOL! I love this city so much.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Man, my husband. I’ve had so many ideas for business from resumes, to planning proposals, mental health advocacy. So much, and he’s just been like ‘okay, what do we need to do?’ I will say that travel has been his favorite lol, but I appreciate him for always being there for me and being super supportive of my ideas, and now, my photographer, videographer, and everything else.
My manager for introducing me to unlimited PTO so I can live out my travel dreams and still be a corporate baddie! LOL
