We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance Devereux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has truly been one of the greatest keys to my success thus far. Without risk and challenge, there is no reward. It has been the smallest of risks that have paid off in my journey. Believing in myself enough step away from full time employment with benefits to purse entrepreneurship full time was the scariest yet most rewarding risk of my career thus far. Anytime I’m fearful to take that first step, that first risk towards my next level, I think about that moment and remember the blessings that followed that leap of faith.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m one of the owner and lead designer of Designs by Devereux, one of the most sought-after floral & event designer companies in the Southeast & beyond, I have designed florals, tablescapes, grand openings, and events for well-known figures such as Quavo, Da Brat & Judy, Cynthia Bailey, Rasheeda Frost, and others. I’m also co-star of VH1’s new originals series “My Celebrity Dream Wedding”. Outside of my own show, my work has been featured on The Real Housewives, Love & Hip-Hop, The Cromarties, B Collective Magazine, and an array of other digital publications including The Knot, Black Bride, Munaluchi Bride, and Black Gay Weddings, just to name a few.

Success comes with its challenges. I have definitely experienced my share of ups and downs. From learning curves to growing pains to maturing into a business mindset, I’m so proud of my growth. Most recently, the pandemic really offered its share of challenges. As a small business who’s industry was almost completely shut down for a year, having to adapt and reinvent my offerings to stay afloat during such a tough time was difficult. But, I’m thankful to say my business made it to the other side stronger and with greater opportunities, Including the premiere of Season 1 of my show “My Celebrity Dream Wedding” on VH1.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love great chill times with family and friends most. Some would say I’m somewhat of a home body. But, I’m also a foodie and love fine dining. One of my absolute favorite restaurants in the city is Hal’s steakhouse. The fast paced scene offers great cocktails, amazing steak, and you have to try the oysters rockefeller. I also enjoy a good drink and dinner with friends at APT 4B. Ponce City Market and Chattahoochee Food Works are also both great options when I want to try something new food wise.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is dedicated to my family & friends. My parents, my sister, my husband, and those friends who believed in me enough to give me my first changes and support me through the early years.
