We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, what role has risk played in your life or career?
“Risks are the key to self confidence. BET ON YOURSELF! I feel like risks are what make life. if you aren’t taking risks then you aren’t successfully living. it took some time for me to learn that. growing up my parents always wanted the best for me and they always wanted to protect me from the the downside of certain risks. me being me sometimes I listened other times I didn’t. What I learned from that though was even when the risk that you may decide to take doesnt work out there is still a lesson behind it that you would’ve never learned had you not taken the risk in the first place. but when the risk does work out you find within yourself an electric shock of certainty that makes your next risk more calculated, more thought out and more confident than the one before. For example when I discovered I had the talent to start making music I had no Idea how I was going to tell the world “hey I make music now” and get taken seriously. so many people know me from my social media presence weather it be via Tiktok or Instagram for Lance Carter just Being Lance Carter but I had to remember how I gained a presence on social media in the first place from square one. The risk. Just go. the hardest part about being a creative is just that. fearing the things you create won’t resonate with other people. but That’s when you know what you have is special and not a copy of someone else. when you know the world has not seen or heard anything like it. that’s when you take the risk and pull the trigger. Not everyone will love what you or what you’ve created. find the people who do.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
“The path that I took to get where I am today was not easy at all, nor do I see it getting any easier to be honest. Here is the thing that artists and social media personalities don’t tell you about being a creative: In order to stand out and have success with longevity you have to ORIGINALLY create. With that comes a lot of anxiety and doubts about what your doing and how people are going to view it simply just because your the first person to do it. There is no blueprint of how it should turn out because you are the one setting the trend that others will follow. With that comes a lot of judgment from industry “professionals”, your peers, and even sometimes your own friends. I had to overcome all of that to be my best self. Stick with your instincts they will take you far most people won’t support you until it becomes a trend to. so make it a trend. One thing that sets me apart from so many people in my field is me as a person. everyone who has seen me on a screen before actually speaking to me in person already has an opinion of me. I have been told the two are always very different. I don’t care who you are I value genuine people. I am very proud to announce to Shoutout Atlanta exclusively that I have my first EP dropping in the Fall and before then I have quite a few singles dropping as well I can’t wait for you all to hear it!”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
“Since moving to Atlanta for University and doing some exploring of my own there are quite a few spots that I would recommend checking out. If your out in the evening ponce city market looks amazing when the sun goes down there is lots of restaurants and places to shop in there. If you want to go for a walk, ride a skateboard or bike I would suggest visiting the beltline. as far as places to eat at check out “paschals” for soul food and for tacos “El Taco” is pretty good. Make sure you visit the aquarium and a random waffle house while your at it (go with a group of people)”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
“There are a few things that I would accredit my success to but the number one would have to be my mother. That’s where I get my grit and tenacity from. It’s because of her I learned that there is no such thing as a no. you probably just haven’t kicked down the right door yet. Dione Carter is my my REAL day one supporter before I even got onto social media and shared my personality with the world. Growing up I switched schools a few times because she wanted the best for me and my education through that She taught me to adapt to any situation or environment that I may get thrown into.”
