We had the good fortune of connecting with LaMeya Cobey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaMeya, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
To me, the most important factor behind the success of my buisness is family. Family is everything to me and not only the amount of support but the love and wisdom that has been drilled into me. The success of Meyamynx my brand has been nothing but a journey and I wouldnt be as far as I am without them, my biggest supporters behind me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my business in 2020 which was the beginning of the pandemic and also my senior year of high school which I did not get the full experience of. I was also working in a fast food restaurant at the time and wanted to do so much more. I have always been the girl that was into beauty but my mom actually gave me the idea to start my lash career. It was not easy at all, I wanted to quit so many times because I was measuring my success at the moment to others. I came to reality and knew I couldn’t give up so I started taking as many clients as possible for literally $25. As time went on I became more comfortable in lashing and marketing my brand to the fullest on instagram, facebook and tiktok. I am happy to announce that in September of 2022, I leased my first commercial property which will be a beauty bar located in southern, MD. I thank all of my clients, supporters and most importantly God because without them none of this would be possible. The lessons I have learned in my two year lash journey is that patience, dedication and discipline can change your life. I want the world to know that it does not matter what you look like, your age or where you started but anything is possible if you believe it and do the work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love where I live, its so much to do here. The DMV, (DC, MD & VA) all located in one has so much enjoyable and memorable places. I would start by enjoying dinner at Lauriol Plaza located in NW, DC. They have the most amazing mexican cuisine and drinks, the atmosphere is amazing and the service is always top tier. Next, we would take a trip to the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD. They have the newest ferris wheel, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream spot and the MGM casino! Lastly, we would settle down and hangout at Ben’s Next Door the next morning for brunch.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really want to dedicate my shoutout to the successful black women I follow on different social media platforms such as Sierra Glamshop and Milano Di Rouge. Just admiring where they both started in life and their drive and hustle makes me want to push myself more and more everyday. They both made their dreams a reality by believing in themselves and literally starting from the bottom. I hope that one day I am able to reach the level of success that these down to earth women did.
