We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakeylia (Key) Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakeylia (Key), what is the most important factor behind your success?
I feel as though the most important factor behind my success is being genuine, personable, and providing a “safe space”. In my opinion those things are something that is lacking in our society and culture at large. I like getting to know my clients and meet their individual needs and desires. I realize that often times people just want to be heard and understood without feeling judged. I create an environment of peace, trust and comfort (with some fun mixed in). Laughter is good for the spirit and I take pleasure in providing customer care that allows people to trust me to create customized pieces for their most precious gifts, their family members, from newborns to their “seasoned” loved ones.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Key’s Crystals was born of wanting to provide an authentic special gift for a friend. It has since become a successful business that creates customized jewelry made of natural semiprecious gemstones. We create beaded jewelry including; bracelets, necklaces, earrings, anklets and rings. We also create custom copper wrapped natural stones (raw and polished) that can made into necklaces, bracelets, arm cuffs, rings, anklets, earrings……. However, waistbeads are by far becoming best sellers. Women love being able to have CUSTOM waistbeads made specifically to their taste. Key’s Crystals also allows the client to add natural semiprecious gemstones to their waistbeads or to have waistbeads made entirely of natural stones. If that wasn’t enough, we also offer copper waistbeads that can be made with or without natural stones.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an Atlanta native and I absolutely love living in one of the most diverse cities in the South. If my friend was visiting I would take them to eat at Atlanta Fish Market if they like seafood or Morton’s Steakhouse if they prefer steak. Capital Grille is a nice option for a formal night out. For drinks I would find a nice Mexican restaurant (because they have great drinks). For a nice hang out day Piedmont Park and/or the Botanical Gardens is a good choice. On one of the days I would take my friend for a road to visit one of my favorite places, High Falls, in Jackson County which is about an hour and a half from Atlanta. High Falls is one place that I go to find my peace and get in touch with nature. If my friend is up for some fun I would take them to Six Flags or Andretti’s (if they don’t like roller coasters)….If my friend likes art the High Museum of Art would be a nice choice. There are so many options all over the city or near the city that will cater to whatever my friend desires and I will happily oblige.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Danielle Denice…She is my classmate, hair stylist, sister-friend, and confidant. Most importantly she is the person who inspired me to start my business and for that I am eternally grateful.
