We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakeisha Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lakeisha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As one gets older and has more responsibilities and commitments it gets harder to take risks. Risks to me are actions that will provide future uncertainty. In my life and career – I took the risk of quitting my job in corporate America in which I was guaranteed a weekly paycheck to open a business full time and be in charge of my own paycheck. I own a home and am a single parent. I discussed with my kids my intentions and what I needed from them. They supported me 100%. It is one of the best risks I have taken in my life as I can not explain the peace of mind I have everyday working for myself. I do advise anyone to take risks earlier in life when it is easier, when you don’t, the harder it is to take risks and the risks do get greater.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is based on the idea that anyone can be a successful plant parent. I find that most think that they do not have a green thumb, but that is not the case. We all have the ability to nurture and take care of something but with plants it is important to have a plant that works for your lifestyle and in the environment that one can provide. I take an interest in talking with everyone and finding out these details so that I can fit each individual with a plant that will work best. Once you learn how to take care and maintain a plant it gets easier and addictive.

I also make myself available to everyone on Instagram. I tell anyone that comes into my shop to feel free to reach out to me with questions, pics, or even videos of plants that they may need help with – and the exciting part of it all is that I have many plant parents who actually do! It feels so good to help others be successful with their plants.

I just want everyone to know that I’m not here to just send you off with a plant, I provide care instructions and guides to anyone who purchases a plant because I do not want anyone to fail. I want everyone to share the same love for plants that I do. I’m literally the plant aunty because I want to see the plant babies growing up!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many awesome parts inside and outside of Atlanta. We would for sure start at the Botanical Garden and then eat at South City Kitchen and an evening drinking along Edgewood Ave.

We’d have to take in some local tourist spots like the Trap Museum and the Underground for fun, Ponce City Market, Centennial park, World of Coca Cola, and riding scooters along the beltline.

A day in Little Five Points for some vintage & thrift shopping and then make candles and Bear and Candle Co. Which is a fun activity that I like doing.

Head over to Perimeter for a day of shopping.

Spend a day in midtown eating Jenny’s ice cream, Bar Taco, and playing at Puttshack.

Finally wrapping up the week on the West End at the breweries.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my daughters for encouraging and nudging me along the way when I had my doubts. My friend Askia for showing me what life is like as an entrepreneur & giving me that final push to jump in feet first. The community of Atlanta’s West End (the best end) for all the love and support.
