We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakeisha Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lakeisha, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I have always been a structured person. I love a good schedule, and working from home for 13 years I learned how to c close the door to my office at 5:30 pm and separate work life and personal life. Since I’ve starting working full time for myself I found it hard to stop work at a certain time. I was trying to cram everything in at all hours of the day because I felt like I had so many ideas and tasks to fulfill. I have now learned how to stop my day at 5pm and create a consistent weekly schedule that makes sense for me. I have one day a week (Monday) that is a self care day where I do nothing that is work related and I find that it prepares me for the rest of the week. Balance to me also means moving slow and taking my time. When rushing through the day you are more likely to make mistakes and forget things.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of living my purpose. I’ve always known at a young age my purpose here is of service. I’ve loved working retail since I was a teenager and knew that I wanted my own retail space. I did not know what I wanted to exactly but as years passed I ended up in corporate America. I still had a service role where I helped our clients but I was unfulfilled as the subject matter wasn’t what I wanted. At the end of the day I learned to trust my instinct and to believe in myself and everything will work itself out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lately I’m really feeling the Interlock & Colony Square area. Between the two there are so many places to play such as Puttshack, Sandbox VR, & IPic or favorite places to dine such as Drawbar & 5Church.

I’m all about a trendy & modern spot with great hospitality.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout to the people who do not know me or my story and have given me uplifting words. I find that there are days where I feel like I’m struggling and feeling unsure about my path. So many times someone has come along and felt the urge to bless my business or pour into me not knowing what I’m going through. Also shoutout to my customers who have shown me that I’m doing a great service. It makes my heart so full when customers who have struggled with plant care come back to tell me that their plants are now thriving. These individuals are who have helped keep me going.
