We had the good fortune of connecting with LaJe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaJe, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor for me has been persistence regardless of outside circumstances. In the music industry, it can be pretty easy to get discouraged, especially when you aren’t seeing support from your peers and your city the way you’d like. But in those moments, it’s important to remember why you started and understand that the support and love will come with time if you stick to your plan. If you love what you do and work everyday towards your goal, progress is inevitable.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer/rapper/songwriter from Chicago. I think what sets me apart is my innovation, creativity and fearlessness. My music is inspired by many different genres and I love to promote self acceptance and self love, as well as love for those around you. We all need each other in some way, shape or form and it’s important to me to remind others of that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A couple of my favorite spots in Chicago are : Girl and the Goat(West Loop). Machine (Lincoln Park), Promontory Point (Hyde park) and anywhere I can get some amazing food and drinks while hearing dope music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my team for always pushing me to do my best. My mother for always believing in me and supporting my dreams since day 1 and all of my close friends for the same reason. Y’all keep me going even when I don’t want to continue! Thank you!
