Meet Lady Murk | Radio Personality Host, Actress & Emcee

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lady Murk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lady, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
To never forget why you started the business or your passion. To invest in your business and market to the correct target.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up doing theater in churches, school plays, productions plays and my first major was in theater. In college I change my major to radio broadcast and began doing my own show, called “In Da House”. The purpose of my show is to discuss social issues to help heal the trauma in the black communities. Also while I was in college I began hosting at clubs as a emcee to help get my name known. Building a brand is not easy at all, you must stay consistent and focus. You must realize that money will come if you market your business correctly. Rebranding helps me to market better and attract the right target for my show. The most challenging part is turning my brand into a business. It’s allot of self investment you have to do before money comes into your business. Best way to overcome these challenges is to network and build a team. The most important lesson I learn is nothing is on my time, it’s on God’s time. Whenever that time comes, you must be ready. I want people to take away the conversation from my show and bring it into their homes or to their loved ones and let’s help one another instead of holding each other back. We’re stronger together. I want people to know that my brand is a safe house but we have fun too. We create opportunities and hopefully change lives. We learn from each other perspective and create better solutions.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m originally from Prince George County, MD. So in PG I would take them to Cameron’s Seafood. Maryland is known for their seafood. Then we would go to a happy hour. Later that night we’ll hit the club in DC at The Park At 14th St or we would go to a Go-Go night. After the club we’ll go to a after hours spot on Adam’s Morgan. The next day we would hit Baltimore City and go to Phillips for their crab cakes and crab legs. Go visit downtown or Fells Point to bar hop. Later that night we’ll hit the club again at Euphoria or Medusa. Afterwards we’ll go to the strip club at Oasis or Norma’s Jeans.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out all my listeners “Kinfolks”, every radio station I been on. Every club that I hosted and most importantly my family and friends for supporting me.
